Casual Position (3 hours/week + a few weekend outings)

Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. is a nonprofit, community based; Indigenous led human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness and that builds on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.

What We Need

Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. is seeking motivated positive female or two spirit role models connected with their cultural background, and interested in or already possessing some cultural knowledge. The Butterfly Club Mentor will mentor Indigenous girls and two spirit youth, 9-13 years of age, and assist the Facilitator with programming focusing on Indigenous cultural reclamation, environmental stewardship, self-development, and community involvement. The program provides youth an opportunity to develop self-confidence, a sense of belonging, protective factors, and involvement in things they may otherwise not have access to.

Mentors must be available to attend program every Thursday from 4:30pm-7:30pm from September 2018 to June 2019, and occasionally attend one (1) weekend outing a month, usually on Saturdays (outing attendance will alternate between mentors).

The program requires a commitment to the end of June 2019 in order to truly make a positive impact in these youth’s lives.

Qualifications

  • Committed to cultural reclamation
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth and/or youth programs
  • High energy level with strong work ethic
  • Organizational, classroom management, and time management skills
  • Shows high degree of initiative, resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability
  • Knowledge of and committed to addressing issues that Indigenous girls and two spirit youth and adults experience

Assets

  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and spirituality
  • Knowledge of community resources

Candidates are required to provide a current (must be within 6 months) Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
