This role will be responsible for revenue accounting for United Way and perform full cycle accounting for a United Way funded agency. Reporting to the Director, Finance and supervising donor services staff, you will work collaboratively with the entire Finance team in the following areas:

United Way revenue accounting:

  • Oversee 3 donor services staff responsible for all revenue transactions and types, payment processing and invoicing
  • Be a subject matter expert on the United Way revenue system (CRM system) and other fundraising systems
  • Design and monitor revenue processes for efficiency, including understanding supporting data systems and data flows
  • Monitor and analyze pledge/account receivables
  • Responsible for overall donor satisfaction in relation to pledge and payment processing
  • Responsible for monthly and year end revenue reconciliations
  • Monitor credit card rates, vendors and contracts

Agency accounting:

  • Perform full cycle accounting for a small organization, including month end and year end activities
  • Monitor funding sources and ensure funders financial reporting requirements are met
  • Preparation of periodic variance analysis and forecasts for agency management
  • Prepare annual budget in partnership with the agency CEO
  • Responsible for regulatory reporting including tax return and GST rebates
  • Provide finance support to the agency’s Finance & Audit Committee, and Board meetings

Other:

  • Assist Finance Team as required during year end and budget
  • Perform financial analysis and reporting if required
  • Backup for payroll

Education and Experience

You’re a detail oriented, self-motivated accounting professional and a values-driven team player. With exceptional organizational skills you are able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. You also have:

  • Post secondary degree (as a minimum) with a major in accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally with some experience overseeing the work of others
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting principles and GAAP, process documentation, and internal control systems
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Ideally, working knowledge of revenue or CRM systems, and accounting software (Great Plains)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an interest in coaching and developing others
