Position Title: Kitchen Program Coordinator
Contract: September 17th, 2018 – December 31, 2018 (with possibility of contract renewal)
Employment: 37.5 hours/week (Monday – Friday, with two evenings per week and occasional weekends)
Summary:
Reporting to the Farm Manager, the Kitchen Program Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of core FortWhyte Farms youth and nutrition programs, as well as vocational activities based at FortWhyte Farms in collaboration with the Leadership Training Coordinator, Farm Program Coordinator and Farm Operations Coordinator.
Principal Tasks:
Kitchen, Nutrition and Youth Programming (65%)
- Develop and deliver program activities related to healthy living, nutrition, culinary and employment skills with Leadership Training Coordinator and Program Coordinator;
- Assist development and deliverance of programming for youth based on food, carpentry and agriculture activities of the farm with an emphasise on hands-on, experiential learning linked to the Education for Sustainable Development Curriculum and related MB Curriculum learning outcomes;
- Assist in creation and maintenance of partnerships to develop outside learning, training and community service opportunities for youth participants;
- Develop Summer Employment Program themes, sharing circles and career development through the Circle of Courage framework;
- Assist in Farm Camp program development, delivery and reporting;
- Assist in all program outcomes, evaluation and reports with Leadership Training Coordinator and Program Coordinator;
- Coordinate Farm-To-Fork Training Kitchen equipment purchases & maintenance;
- Coordinate food inventory & supplies, produce development and social enterprise products;
- Assist in kitchen and nutrition recipe development throughout the year;
- Support youth-led Community Lunch;
- Coordinate year round Community Kitchen facility rentals;
- Design and implement minimum 2 public programs related to culinary programs at FortWhyte Farms.
Leadership, Training and Education (25%)
- Interview, train and mentor youth staff in the summer employment program;
- Interview, train and support seasonal support staff with Program Coordinator and Farm Manager, and volunteers with assistance from FortWhyte Alive’s Volunteer Manager;
- Provide and arrange transportation for youth as needed;
- Work with Farm Manager and Program Coordinator to ensure program/participation requirements of grants and supporting agencies are met;
- Write 4 blog posts per year;
- Assist with public events as needed, including: Earth Day, Plant Sale, Harvest Supper, Farm Camps, etc.
Farm Facility and Operations (5%)
- With the Farm Operations Coordinator, support program participants and seasonal staff meet the operational needs of the farm;
- Assist and lead any farm operations where needed;
- Maintain transportation vehicle, maintain farm site and buildings when necessary;
- Assist in development of overall FortWhyte Farms budget;
- Maintain farm facilities, grounds and site;
- Clean and maintain farm building and kitchen.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership experience and/or related post-secondary education in the development and delivery of programming related to personal growth and development of under-served, diverse youth;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to work cooperatively with other team members to accomplish shared goals;
- Proven ability to train, supervise and lead a staff team of youth and peers
- Proven initiative and problem-solving skills, with strong organizational and communication skills
- Physically fit, and capable of outdoor labour
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Ability to develop and facilitate programs for large groups of all ages and abilities
- Availability to work in a flexible environment
- Valid Driver’s License (Class 4 preferred)
- Satisfactory background checks of the child abuse registry and criminal records
