The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. Through our social enterprise, Happy Sprouts Childminding Services, we train and employ women facing barriers to employment while increasing the accessibility of programs throughout Winnipeg by providing quality childcare.
WCWRC is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Educator II to support childminders in the implementation of the Abecedarian Approach to our childminding services. The ECE II will be responsible for providing ongoing mentorship to childminders on the abecedarian approach as well as providing quality care with a child-centered approach in a license-not-required childminding setting.
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $18-$20
Time requirement: 30-35 hours per week. Evening and Weekend work required.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Social Enterprise, the ECE II is responsible for:
Mentorship
- Supporting childminders during shifts at various locations; providing guidance and feedback as needed
- Conducting regular evaluations of childminders
- Mentoring childminders in the Abecedarian approach to ensure understanding and consistent implementation
- Facilitating additional training when required
Childcare
- Developing a multicultural and age-appropriate program for children
- Implementing new programs and developing creative approaches to engage children
- Maintaining close contact with parents concerning children’s behaviour and development
- Creating an environment that fosters positive self-esteem and reflects the cultural diversity of the children
Other
- Maintaining accurate records of attendance, snacks and activities
- Develop strong relationships with the childminders, families and hiring organizations
- Ensure Director of Social Enterprise is kept aware of all trends, priority issues, concerns and opportunities and assist with problem solving issue raised
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Early Childhood Education Level II Diploma
- Valid First Aid Certificate and CPR Level B
- Valid Criminal Record Check, and clear Child Abuse Registry Check
- Experience working with children aged 6 months- 12 years
- Ability/experience working in a multicultural environment including with newcomer and indigenous families
- Demonstrated knowledge of child care standards and best practices
- Strong understanding of child development with positive behaviour management skills
- Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills
- Strength, stamina and ability to work with active, young children
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a small team
- Professional and responsible with sensitivity to confidential issues
Preferred:
- Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
- Experience working with women facing barriers to employment
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
- Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision
Working conditions:
- Evening and weekend work required
- This job involves traveling to various locations throughout the inner-city
- The job involves working with young children and includes lifting and participating in physical activities.
