Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, you will perform accounting and internal control functions in accordance with standard policies and procedures, which include:
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements
- Assist in preparing year-end files and working papers
- Prepare bank and general ledger account reconciliations, including analysis
- Prepare payment vouchers including payments to suppliers, agencies and other registered charities; and monitor outstanding cheques
- Prepare bank deposits
- Track capital purchases and maintain amortization schedules
- Prepare statistical reports and perform analysis as required
- Assist others in the finance department by performing other duties as assigned, including processing of pledge collections and providing financially related donor services
Other
- Participate in regular department or team meetings
- Work as a team with all members of the organization on special projects such as the Annual General Meeting and other organizational events and initiatives
- Work collaboratively with other members of your department to implement a Departmental Plan that aligns with the organization’s Strategic Plan and budgeting
- Work collaboratively with volunteers and other members of your department to ensure that all stakeholders have meaningful experiences that lead them to be confident and passionate ambassadors of United Way of Winnipeg
- Participate as a member of the bargaining unit, specifically Unifor and it's Local 191
Education and Experience
You possess the following qualifications or an equivalent combination of education and related experience:
- Diploma in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three to five years accounting experience in a computerized environment including hands-on responsibility for all aspects of accounting
- Knowledge of financial accounting principles and GAAP, and internal control systems
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, including intermediate level knowledge of Excel
- Working knowledge of accounting software (Great Plains) would be considered an asset
- Exceptional organizational skills with particular attention to detail
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good oral and written communications skills
- Experience in a non-profit environment is considered an asset
- Ability to prioritize and work with competing tasks and deadlines
- Respectful of confidentiality
- Ability to learn and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, changing environment and manage several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to take initiative and demonstrate imagination and resourcefulness
