Community Family Liaison Contact- Medicine Bear Counseling, Support and Elder Services
Full-time Position (40 hours/week)
Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. Is a nonprofit, community based; Indigenous lead human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness and that builds on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls within First Nation and rural communities (south of the 53rd parallel) in Manitoba. The incumbent will provide general information regarding the Criminal Justice system, short-term counselling, risk assessments, safety planning and referrals to community programs as required. The incumbent will work closely with the families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, community agencies, and government departments and agencies to ensure questions families have about their loved one(s) are answered and ensure families receive comprehensive support and referral to both Western and traditional resources.

What You Bring:
- University Degree in a related field and three (3) years’ experience working in the Indigenous community; or equivalent combination of education and experiences with successful program or program coordination;
- Proven team player who demonstrates flexibility and adaptability;
- Detail oriented, highly organized, and self-motivated individual;
- Stellar facilitation and presentation skills;
- Ability to create and edit project documents, materials, and presentations;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Strong listening, interpersonal and negotiation skills;
- Strong problem-solving and resolution skills and good use of judgement;
- Experience in detailed record keeping and data collection collection;
- Demonstrated ability to manage stress effectively, efficient project management skills to meet time challenges and constraints,
- Effective crisis intervention skills;
- Demonstrated short-term crisis/and ongoing counselling skills;
- Proven expertise in applying an anti-oppressive framework, and demonstrated cultural competence;
- Experience facilitating sharing/healing circles and knowledge of traditional healing practices;
- Advanced knowledge about the effects of unresolved loss, trauma, and grief;
- Awareness of the issues concerning human trafficking and sexual exploitation and victimization;
- Intimate knowledge of the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls within Canada;
- An understanding of the Indigenous economic, cultural and political environments;
- Ability to travel extensively throughout First Nations and rural communities (south of the 53rd parallel) in Manitoba;
- Food Handler’s Certificate is an asset.
