Facilitator Heart Medicine Lodge Part-time Position (20 hours/week)
About the Role
Heart Medicine Lodge is an essential and unique Indigenous-led program that provides culturally-based support and advocacy services for Indigenous women, and those who identify as women, who have experienced sexual assault and/or sexual violence.
In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in planning and organizing components of the Heart Medicine Lodge program, including the 12-week healing support group, weekly mindfulness-based practice, monthly Strawberry Talks, support with medical and legal issues related to sexual violence, Traditional Ceremonies, Elder support, and linkages to other community resources.

Is someone who is culturally competent, and committed to the strengths and values of Indigenous knowledge, cultural reclamation, and traditional practices. You are supportive of Ka Ni Kanichihk’s values and beliefs. You have experience and know how to create and promote an open and safe space for dialogue about sexual violence. You have a sound understanding of anti-oppressive frameworks, and deeply understand Indigenous economic, cultural, and political environments. The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable working with Elders, and has experience with arranging ceremonies. This person has an in-depth knowledge of advocacy services, and community resources and is not afraid to advocate for program participants.
What You Bring
- You have post-secondary education in a related field and three (3) years’ experience working in the Indigenous community, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience facilitating groups and understanding of group dynamics
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written
- You know how to create and edit documents, materials, and presentations
- You are detail orientated, highly organized, self-motivated, and know how to prioritize to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of community resources
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Knowledge of traditional ceremonies and healing practices
- Experience providing counselling support is an asset
- Experience and knowledge on impacts of violence including sexual violence against Indigenous women
- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
