CPAWS Manitoba has been instrumental in establishing 22 parks and protected areas in our province. At 4 million hectares, that’s an area 1.6 times the size of Lake Winnipeg.

With your help, we hope to protect half of Manitoba’s wild spaces.

We are seeking an energetic and inspiring Outreach and Engagement Officer to join our growing team.

This is a full-time term position which may become permanent. The starting salary will be the equivalent of $40,000 to $45,000 a year.

Responsibilities

  • Your primary responsibility will be to lead all aspects of a wilderness engagement project that will bring youth from five First Nations to Tadoule Lake. You will be instrumental in ensuring the trip is a success, you will support the youths’ participation in a conference in Ottawa and you will be charged with supporting their efforts to develop community service projects.
  • Additional duties will focus on engaging the general public in conservation through direct outreach and events. You will play a lead role in planning events such as nature hikes and managing the efforts of summer students and volunteers.
  • You will show the impact of our engagement efforts in a variety of ways including writing blogs, and shooting photos and videos during events.
  • You will support other team members as needed and report to the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • A university or college degree in marketing, communications, environmental sciences, education or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience working with youth, volunteers and the general public.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience planning events in a professional setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, organize work independently, fulfill assigned tasks, and meet crucial deadlines. 
  • Strong written and verbal English communications skills.
  • The ability to work flexible hours and travel within Canada.
  • Clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector within the last five years or ability to obtain and pass a clear criminal record check.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who speak Cree or Dene.
