The Housing Mentor is a member of the Women’s Support and Recovery Team and provides direct services to the participants of the Women’s Support and Recovery Program at North End Women’s Centre.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or certificate in the social services field
  • Experience providing long term, short term, and/or crisis counselling to women
  • Experience in the development, organization, and facilitation of groups for women
  • Experience working with women from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Experience working in a community based setting in the North End of Winnipeg
  • Experience working with women in a residential setting
  • Knowledge of the impacts of poverty, addictions, sexual exploitation, homeless, mental health, and violence on women
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with Indigenous people particularly in terms of the historical context, traditions, teachings as well as the unique barriers Indigenous women face
  • Knowledge of the resources available in the community to women experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and/or addictions
  • Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a safe vehicle and satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Register Check

Responsibilities

  • To assist participants in accessing and connecting to community resources that will help meet their basic needs and assist with building capacity
  • To encourage participants to advocate for themselves and advocate on their behalf as required
  • To assist participants in obtaining and transitioning to long term, stable housing
  • To act as a role model for participants modeling healthy relationships, boundaries, and healthy communication
  • To provide participants with life skills coaching/mentoring, crisis counselling, information and referrals
  • To plan and facilitate/co-facilitate workshops on housing, life skills and pre-employment
  • Administrative and reporting duties

Job Status: Full Time, Term (June 2019 - March 31, 2020 with possibility of extension)
Hours: 37.5 hours/week (Monday – Friday 8:30- 4:30)
Closing Date: May 6, 2019 at 8:30am
Start Date: June 2019
Salary Range: $ 18- $24 per hour
