Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives Manitoba Office
The CCPA Manitoba, in collaboration with community partners and academics, is undertaking a 2020 Alternative Provincial Budget. The APB provides a meeting place for activists, academics, policy researchers and citizens from a broad range of progressive perspectives to come together and create, under the discipline of a fiscal plan, a common set of budgetary alternatives embodying values and priorities of Truth and Reconciliation, inclusion, environmental sustainability, labour rights and equity.
Purpose and scope:
APB Consultation Coordinator reports to the CCPA- MB Director and Errol Black Chair in Labour Issues. They are responsible for organizing public consultation and stakeholder consultations for the Alternative Provincial Budget, summarizing feedback, communicating back with participants and chapter authors.
Documentation for the consultations has been prepared and will be provided, including:
- Handouts for participants
- Guidelines for running the consultation
- Background information on such topics as taxes, debts and deficits and a summary of highlights of the 2019 provincial budget.
Roles and responsibilities:
Develop and Deliver Consultation Plan for the following:
- Four general consultations in Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson and one other location
- Skype/ online consultations with interested communities in Manitoba
- 4 – 6 topic focused consultations lead by chapter authors
- Ensure key populations are included in consultations above, or supported to organize their own consolations
- Ensure information collected at consultation is summarized, provided back to participants and to chapter authors.
- Supervise and support volunteers at consultation events
Online Survey
- Develop simple online survey on APB
- Communications on the survey
- Summarize results to key chapter authors
Media & Social Media
- Develops communications plan
- Writes press releases for consultations
- Info on consultations shared over social media
Evaluation
- Tracking and evaluation of activities listed above
Experience and Skills required:
General
- Knowledgeable and trained in public consultation processes
- Basic survey design and development
- Supervision / volunteer support skills and experience
- Training in anti-oppression an asset
- Ability to work cooperatively in a small office environment
- Strong time management
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as well as take directions from others
- Knowledge of community-based organization sectors in Manitoba
Computer Skills
- Microsoft office suite
- InDesign and/ or basic layout an asset
Communication Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to deal with researchers and community members in a friendly and competent manner
- Conflict resolution training
Bookkeeping and Administration:
- General financial record keeping
- Tracking outputs and outcomes for evaluation
This is a part-time positon for 12 weeks at $20/ hour for 20 hours/ week. This position is less than 3 days/ week and therefore is not part of the Collective Agreement between CCPA/ UNIFOR. Timeframe: May – September, 2019.
