The Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) is a coalition of Manitoba-based organizations involved in international development. Its missionm is to support, connect and amplify the work of its members and partners, while directly engaging and collaborating with Manitobans for global sustainability. MCIC is also responsible for distributing government funds designated for international development and humanitarian projects.
Job Profile:
Reporting to the Communications Specialist and receiving input from other staff members, the Communication and Social Media Assistant will be preparing communication products that can be used on our social media channels and websites and traditional media. The Communication and Social Media Assistant will also collaborate with a small communications team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communication and Social Media Assistant will be working on the following areas:
- Gather, research and prepare communications material for internal and external audiences
- Assist in the preparation of brochures, reports, newsletters and other material
- Preparing social media posts in English and French
- Designing posters and infographics
- Writing blog posts
- Creating content and updating our websites
- Assisting the Communications Specialists with current projects such as innovation, fairtrade and global citizenship
- Oher duties as assigned

The Communication and Social Media Assistant is accountable for:

- Representing MCIC in a positive manner through professional conduct

- Ensuring details are handled accurately and in a timely fashion

Qualifications:
Funding for this position is through the Government of Canada Summer Jobs Grant. This opportunity is for youth aged 15-30 who are citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
Education:
- Student or recent graduate of a certificate or degree program in the area of communications, public relations, international development, community economic development or related fields.
Experience:
Previous experience in the following, either as an employee or as a volunteer:
- Social media
- Media relations
- Online content management system
- Graphic Design
- Working on a committee or part of a team
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- A keen interest in self and professional development
- The ability to integrate into and work with a work team
- Time management
- Strong organizational abilities and the ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Project management
- Graphic Design, including the development of promotional materials
- The art of writing effective and engaging social media posts
- Writing and storytelling skills
- Knowledge of social justice and international development issues including fair trade, innovation and global citizenship
- Website maintenance
- Personal Communication skills as they apply to interaction with other team members
- Communication skills as they pertain to Media Releases, Social Media and Website maintenance
- Bilingual French / English
Proficiency in computer applications:
- Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel
- Adobe Creative Suite
Working Conditions:
- Office environment on site at MCIC
- May be required to represent MCIC at activities outside of the office
