Health and Wellness Program Coordinator

The Health and Wellness Program Coordinator reports to the Community Economic Development (CED) Manager and provides direct service to participants of the North End Women’s Centre.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary certificate or degree in Health Science, Health Promotion, Health Education, or in a related social services field. Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered;
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with Indigenous people particularly in terms of the historical context, traditions, teachings as well as the unique barriers Indigenous women face;  Background in Trauma Informed Practice; Harm Reduction perspective; Pro-Choice.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in group facilitation;
  • Experience in program planning, development and implementing a variety of wellness programs or workshops such as: Red Road to Healing, Yoga, Tai Chi, Medicine Wheel Teachings, Meditation, Nutrition, Sharing Circles, Drumming, etc.;
  • Knowledge of cooking/food preparation, nutrition, healthy eating practices, safe food handling;
  • Knowledge of the resources available in the community to women experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and/or addictions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Non-judgmental and accepting attitude with the ability to recognize own biases, assumptions and areas of reactivity;
  • Strong time management, organizational, and problem solving skills - including the ability to multitask, prioritize, designate and complete tasks (reports, data, etc.) with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • The demonstrated ability to be self motivated and to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Ability to deal with crisis situations and conflict in an appropriate manner;
  • Knowledge of a variety of creative ways to encourage self awareness, self care, and healing in women;  Basic computer and administrative skills and experience working with MS Excel, MS Windows, MS Word, and MS Outlook in a work setting;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a defined budget;
  • Knowledge of a variety of healing practices (emotional, physical, mental and spiritual) from various cultures would be considered an asset;
  • Experience working with marginalized women from diverse cultural backgrounds would be considered an asset;
  • Experience working in a community based setting in the North End of Winnipeg would be considered an asset;

Responsibilities

  • To research, plan, organize, coordinate and facilitate a variety of empowerment, self care, art therapy, and self identity programs and workshops for women;
  • To recruit community women for the program through the development and distribution of posters and presentations to sister and community organizations;
  • To research, develop, and distribute plain language handouts to participants attending sessions;
  • To shop for program supplies while adhering to the program budget;
  • To track and evaluate each project based on an identified process and outcome indicators;
  • Administrative and reporting duties;

Additional Requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Checks;
  • A current/valid First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain within 3 months);
  • A current/valid Food Handlers Certificate (or willingness to obtain within 3 months);
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle;
  • May be required to regularly lift or move items up to 40 lbs+ and navigate multiple level buildings(stairs);

Job Status: Term Full-Time 37.5 hours per week (November 18, 2019 - March 31, 2021) Program renewal is based upon funding
Salary Range: $18-$24 / hour

*Ability to work a flexible schedule is required- Position involves daytime and evening hours with occasional weekend hours.
