The Counsellor is a member of the Community Support Team and provides direct services to the participants of the Community Support Program at the North End Women’s Centre.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or certificate in the social services field
- 2 years of experience providing crisis, short term and long term counselling
- Experience in the development and facilitation of groups
- Experience working with women from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge of, and experience working with Indigenous people particularly in terms of the historical context, traditions, teachings as well as the unique barriers Indigenous women identified people face.
- Experience working in a community based setting in the North End of Winnipeg an asset
- Knowledge of the resources available in the community to people experiencing poverty, homelessness, gender based violence, and/or addictions
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
- Non-judgemental and accepting attitude
- Able to recognize own biases and assumptions
- Basic computer and administrative skills
- Ability to deal with crisis situations in an appropriate manner
- Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered
- Valid driver’s license, access to a safe vehicle and satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Register Check
Duties & Responsibilities
- To provide individual counselling to women identified people who have been impacted by gender based violence
- To empower women identified people to advocate for themselves and to advocate on their behalf
- To provide over the phone or in person drop-in/crisis counselling to women identified people
- To provide information, referral, and support to women identified people
- To plan and facilitate open and closed counselling groups and workshops for women identified people
- Administrative and reporting duties

Job Status: Full Time FT Term until March 31, 2022 with possibility of extension 37.5 hours per week (8:30-4:30pm) Monday to Friday Ability to work some evenings until 8:30
Salary Range: $18 – $24 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience)
