The Information and Referral Coordinator is a member of the Counselling Team, is responsible for the Drop-In Program of the North End Women’s Centre, provides direct service to community women, and provides administrative support to the Centre.
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary certificate in administration or training in counselling an asset
- Experience working with women or families from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge of, and experience working with Indigenous people particularly in terms of the historical context, traditions, teachings as well as the unique barriers Indigenous women face
- Experience working in a community based organization
- Experience and knowledge of harm reduction supply distribution
- Experience working or living in the North End of Winnipeg
- Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to follow direction and make decisions within the parameters of the job
- Ability to work flexibly in a high stress environment; cover evening shift if needed
- Knowledge of the resources available in the community to women experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and/or substance use
- Non-judgemental and accepting attitude
- Ability to practice professional boundaries
- Computer, administrative and data entry skills
Duties and Responsibilities
Drop-In Responsibilities in collaboration with Evening Info and Referral Coordinator
- To welcome visitors to the Centre and continuously promote a community understanding of the Centre’s vision, mission, objectives, policies, programs, and services.
- To manage the drop in area and ensure that participants are adhering to specific policies and guidelines of the Drop In as outlined in the Employee Policy and Procedure Manual
- To ensure all resources, pamphlets, brochures, and posters displayed are up to date and in align with the North End Women’s Centre’s philosophy
- To provide women with information regarding the various programs offered at the North End Women’s Centre and to register them for programs as appropriate
- To process snack orders for Drop- in and Community Support Team (snack storage)
- To complete data entry related to program requirements
Administrative Responsibilities
- To open and close the Centre for day shifts
- To keep appraised of trends in the community, political and socio-economical areas that may impact NEWC programs and services
- To answer phones and take messages for staff members ensuring they are accurately relayed through voicemail or message book
- To ensure the Centre’s garbage and recycling is put out for pick up in a timely manner and in accordance to the City of Winnipeg Standards
- To ensure recycling and garbage bins are unlocked/locked at the beginning/end of day
Other Duties
- To participate in staff meetings once a month
- To participate in team meetings bi-weekly
- To participate in relevant training opportunities as required
- To participate in annual performance reviews
Additional Requirements
- Valid Class 5 license and access to a safe and reliable vehicle an asset
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check
- Trauma Informed Certificate or willingness to attend training
- ASSIST Suicide Prevention Certificate or willingness to attend training
- Current CPR/First Aid training or willingness to attend training
- De-escalating Potentially Violent Situations training or willingness to attend training
Job Status: FT Term until March 31, 2021 with possibility of extension 37.5 hours per week (8:30am -4:30pm with some evenings) Monday to Friday
Salary Range: $18-$24 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience)
