Cando (Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers), is a federally registered non-profit organization that is Indigenous-controlled, community-based, and membership-driven. Cando devotes its activities towards building and strengthening Indigenous economies, providing education, professional development and networking opportunities for Economic Development Officers (EDOs) working in Indigenous Community Economic Development either in communities or organizations, such as Economic Development Corporations.

Cando is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual with excellent knowledge & understanding of Indigenous Community Economic Development. Under the direction and guidance of the Executive Director, the Director of Finance will be responsible for all accounting and bookkeeping functions in a non-profit organization. Duties include processing of accounts payable and receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, monthly financial statements, quarterly GST reports, reporting for projects to municipal, provincial and federal governments as well as stakeholders. Quarterly claims will be made to applicable government agencies along with cash flow requirements and activity reports. The Director of Finance will also prepare annual budgets for core funding as well as any additional budgets for other projects that may arise. Duties will also include preparation of monthly statements and reminders; collections of outstanding accounts when necessary; and preparation of monthly/quarterly financial statements for Executive Director’s review.

The Director of Finance will ensure that Cando maintains an effective and accurate financial management system, including accounting, budgeting and reporting; that it maintains full and transparent reporting, internally and externally, to all funding sources, and that it manages the receipt and expenditure of all Cando monies in a professional and ethical manner. In addition to reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance will be responsible for providing reports to the organizations’ National Board of Directors and other related Committees as needed.

Completion of an accredited accounting program through a post-secondary institution is a required qualification. Extensive knowledge and experience with AccPac V 5.5, Microsoft Word & Excel is mandatory. A minimum of five years work experience in an accounting-related position is required. Previous experience working in an Indigenous organization is a definite asset. Knowledge and experience with Indigenous people, communities and culture is a preferred qualification.

Salary is commensurate with education and related experience. Relocation costs (if applicable) are the responsibility of the successful applicant.
