Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is looking for someone with passion, who enjoys working on a team, conducting research, building connections, and is committed to true Indigenous Climate Justice to serve as its Intersectional Movement Building Research Intern.

Position Summary

ICA has grown tremendously over the last three years building new relationships and expanding our body of work. As an Indigenous-led organization we understand and recognize the importance of working with Black, Indigenous, and People Of Color (BIPOC) and other structurally oppressed organizations and allies in building out a strong, diverse and intersectional movement. Through outreach, research and analysis of existing work, organizations, and individuals working in this area this position will help to strengthen ICA’s intersectional work. 

This position will report to the Leadership team and work closely with the Community Engagement Lead.

Deliverables

A “decolonized” annotated bibliography and summary report, including: 

  • an outline of the movement landscape in so-called Canada within the past 50 years; 
  • creating short profiles of organizations, coalitions, etc. (also finding current contact information, if applicable); and
  • summary report of findings for ICA networks.

Qualifications and Experience

  • experience with qualitative research and annotated bibliographies
  • ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • experience and understanding of Indigenous rights, climate justice and social justice movements
  • be responsible, flexible, hard‐working, ethical, and committed to the mission of ICA
  • possess a high level of organizational skills and be detail-oriented
  • possess solid oral and written communication skills  
  • technology savviness, fluent using GSuite, and online research platforms
  • familiarity or willingness to learn ICA’s office software and communication applications (e.g. e-calendars, slack, zoom, and monday.com)

Education:

This position would be suitable for youth with experience in research, particularly qualitative research practices. Enrollment or graduation from an undergrad or graduate program is not required, but would be an asset. The applicant should be seeking to gain hands-on experience in grassroots community development within an Indigenous environmental organization.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 15 hours a week.
  • Submission of all work assignments within determined deadlines.

Compensation:

CAD $25-30/hour (depending on experience)
