We are Building Up – Toronto’s leading social contractor. We are a registered pre-apprenticeship program and non-profit contractor that uses renovations and affordable housing development as an opportunity to train and employ individuals with barriers to employment to get into the construction sector. We are a collaborative and passionate management staff of 20, and we support 120 trainees on an annual basis, of whom, 85% go on to full time careers in the construction field. Our goal is to transition people from trainees to tradespeople.
Job Profile: HR Manager
We are looking for an HR Manager to support the human resources needs of our rapidly growing, socially-minded organization. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for all human resources activity for the organization, including human resources strategy, full-cycle recruitment, and supporting the continued development of a welcoming and high-performance team culture. The successful applicant will be a seasoned HR professional with expertise fostering diverse and inclusive workplaces and a creative, problem-solving orientation.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of organizational human resources strategy
- Lead and implement full-cycle recruitment for all new hires
- Lead conflict resolution processes internally, including supporting complex issues such as: grievance handling, harassment claims, disciplinary action
- Develop human resources systems, including a performance review strategy, and strategies for supporting staff career pathway development
- Manage internal human resources transitions, including: leading terminations, transfers, promotions, and leaves of absence
- Offer leadership on internal culture development, including supporting the development of a culture that fosters inclusivity, diversity, equity, access and anti-racism
- Monitor and update programs and policies to ensure compliance with Ministry of Labour and Occupational Health and Safety Act standards
- Manage WSIB claims and support Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and Occupational Health & Safety programs
- Motivate and support staff in a changing environment
Necessary Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in human resources management, which can include experience in full-cycle recruitment
- 3+ years of experience in supporting development of culture processes, leading team retreats, facilitating teamwork, etc.
- University degree in human resources / post-secondary diploma in HR management or equivalent work experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills
- Trained in anti-oppressive and anti-racism practices
- Experience in conflict mediation / conflict resolution
- Strong facilitation skills, particularly in working with disadvantaged community members
- Proficiency with computer programs including, Google Drive
- Certified Human Resources Professional designation an asset
- Experience in the construction industry an asset
- Experience in the non-profit sector, and/or in employment programs / pre-apprenticeship training programs an asset

Work Environment:

- Salary: $55,000.00 – $70,000 /year, commensurate with skills and experience
