The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is Women-Centered and works from empowerment, inclusion, harm reduction, multi-level and community economic development philosophies to support women experiencing poverty, homelessness, mental illness, violence, substance use or participating in sex-trade work.
Position Summary: Drop-in/outreach staff will assist participants to meet their day to day needs such as phone and computer access, meals, laundry, hygiene supplies and resource referrals. Drop-in/Outreach Staff support the day to day operations of our drop-in and build relationships with community members. In addition, staff will conduct street outreach to support unhoused populations.
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $15
Time requirement: Casual *Flexible availability including evenings and weekends required*

Duties and Responsibilities:
Drop-in
- Create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone in the Drop-In; including mediating conflict and calming tensions
- Provide support and referrals to vulnerable individuals compassionately and non-judgmentally while maintaining strong personal boundaries
- Answer and direct calls appropriately
- Assist in coordinating drop-in services including hygiene distribution, laundry, shower and computer usage
Outreach
- Prepare and deliver food hampers to households in the inner-city
- Connect with street populations sleeping on public lands through outreach
- Build rapport with individuals sleeping rough and gain an understanding of their stories, concerns and their needs
- Connect individuals sleeping rough to resources that will improve their standard of living, such as housing, income, medical supports, and identification
- Distribute harm reduction supplies, cold weather gear and meals
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
- High school diploma, some post-secondary education or combination of education and life experience
- Demonstrated ability to work within an inclusion framework
- Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
- Superior problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse individuals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Well-developed computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Class 5 Driver’s License
Preferred
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Ability to work from a multi-level approach
- Understanding of Community Economic Development concepts
- Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
- Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
Work Conditions
- There is a risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviors and situations
- Evening and weekend work required
