The Manitoba Cooperative Association (MCA) is a cooperative of cooperatives created by our members to enhance and support the development of a strong, united and influential cooperative community in Manitoba.

This work experience placement is part of the CreateAction Inclusive Social Innovation program. The Engagement Advisor will be part of a network of 25 CreateAction participants and will join in regular peer learning and training sessions throughout the 6 month work experience, delivered by the program partners: the Canadian CED Network and the National Association of Friendship Centres.

MCA is seeking an Engagement Advisor with a passion for learning and a willingness to explore the opportunities and benefits of the cooperative model.  Using these learnings the successful candidate will provide recommendations for engagement opportunities on a variety of platforms including MCA’s social media.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and research a variety of initiatives and events about co-ops happening locally and around to world.
  • Provide recommendations about how MCA could be involved or replicate these events/initiatives.
  • Assist with online outreach and engagement using Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and more
  • Participate in all CreateAction Program activities as organized by the Canadian CED Network and the National Association of Friendship Centres..

Requirements

As part of the Create Action Program, the successful candidate

  • is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at start of placement;
  • is a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • is legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and
  • is experiencing one or more barriers to employment; and/or
  • is not in education, employment, or training (NEET).

The ideal participant would have the following skills/qualifications:

  • Willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of cooperatives, community economic development, and/or social innovation
  • Strong initiative and self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Good writing skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and various social media platforms
  • Exercise good judgement, particularly as it relates to social media posts
  • Energetic and creative
  • Hard-working and team-oriented

Terms of Employment

This is a six-month term position with a start date of January 11, 2021 and an end date of July 9, 2021.

MCA’s offices are located in Winnipeg where this position would be located.  However, there is an opportunity to work remotely provided the successful candidate has access to a reliable internet connection.

As part of the CreateAction Program, compensation for this position is $19/hour for 37.5 hours/week for a period of 26 weeks..
