MOVING FORWARD CO-OPERATIVE IS HIRING A YOUTH ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

The Moving Forward Co-operative is hiring a Youth Engagement Coordinator for a term of 26 weeks beginning January 11 to develop recreational and social programs and activities for children and youth in the Greater Dorchester area. This includes a project with the Dorchester K-8 school to establish a year-round Food Learning Lab with an aquaponics system, community garden, and greenhouse, as well as seed-to-table educational and experiential learning activities. In addition, Moving Forward is in the process of developing recreational and social programs for children and youth at our Station8 community centre.

The Youth Engagement Coordinator will help develop these programs and coordinate activities. They will also assist with communications and social media activities to promote the work being done and to reach as many children and youth as possible.

This work experience placement is part of the CreateAction Inclusive Social Innovation program. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will be part of a network of 25 CreateAction participants and will join in regular peer learning and training sessions throughout the 6 month work experience, delivered by the program partners: the Canadian CED Network and the National Association of Friendship Centres.

Desired skills and qualifications

The ideal candidate will have relevant education and experience in youth engagement and the development and delivery of programs for children and youth. They will be reliable, organized, and able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team of community partners, youth, families, and volunteers. They will have good interpersonal, communication and leadership skills and be comfortable working with people of all ages, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. They will be adept in common computer software such as Microsoft Office and social media platforms. They will have graphic design and writing skills and be able to produce promotional and marketing materials as well as reports as required by the Board.  They will also help maintain the Moving Forward website.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • be 30 years or under
  • be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • face barriers to employment
  • be unemployed or underemployed
  • not be attending school or a training program

The work week is 37.5 hours at $18-$20 per hour depending upon qualifications.

This is a term position of 26 weeks from Jan 11 - July 9, 2021 with the possibility of longer term employment.
