This work experience placement is part of the CreateAction Inclusive Social Innovation program. The Content and Data Coordinator will be part of a network of 25 CreateAction participants and will join in regular peer learning and training sessions delivered by the program partners: the Canadian CED Network and the National Association of Friendship Centres.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at start of placement;
- be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and
- be experiencing one or more barriers to employment; and/or
- be not in education, employment, or training (NEET).
Responsibilities:
Support Content Development and Publication for the Ontario Organic Knowledge Base
- Assist in the development of a knowledge base information management system, including data entry, content creation, and editing;
- Assist in growing our repository of subject-specific resources related to organic standards, regulations, science and the organic system in Canada;
- Assist in answering organic inquiries related to the organic standards and regulations.
Data and Information Management Support
- Support the maintenance of clean and up-to-date member data for industry reporting and member management purposes;
- Assist in the continual improvement and maintenance of social media tracking and monitoring systems (e.g. follow MPPs on Twitter, organize Hootsuite platform etc.).
Membership and Communications Support
- Suppprt OCO’s social media strategy, creating engaging content and images;
- Help to create monthly e-newsletters and alerts using Mailchimp and Hubspot;
- Assist with the development and delivery of advocacy campaigns and member mail-outs;
- Support the improvement of internal communications systems (e.g. improve internal organization systems);
- Assist in the identification of and outreach to prospective members;
- Support the development and implementation of new member benefits.
Other Project Support
- Support the Stable Funding project and advocacy work for an Ontario Organic Regulation as needed;
- Take meeting notes, draft communications content related to committee work, support advocacy efforts (including events), and provide any other support needed;
- Distill information from government and organizational policy statements into digestible and engaging communications;
- Assist in the identification of and outreach to prospective project partners;
- Support the planning and promotion of member webinars and events.
The Ideal Candidate:
Has some combination of the following skills:
- Highly motivated, can work independently and in a team;
- Knows how to juggle and prioritize multiple priorities;
- Has strong written communications skills and an eye for design;
- Has strong data management skills and experience using Excel or Google Sheets to organize, analyze, and present insights gleaned from data,
- Experience with non-academic report writing and/or journalism,
- Possesses very strong attention to detail, including for the purposes of proofreading and editing,
- Experience using information and/or data systems, such as membership or fundraising databases,
- Takes initiative to constantly improve their work and the work of the organization;
- Passionate and knowledgeable about food and agriculture; knowledge of organics an asset;
- Experience using or is comfortable learning to use various online communications and data management tools (e.g. Survey Monkey, Wordpress, Statamic, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, Canva, Google Suite, custom software)
- Experience with graphic design tools an asset (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Canva etc.);
- Some understanding of the Ontario political climate and public sector is an asset;
- French language skills are an asset.
