The Centre for Local Prosperity is a registered charitable organization promoting local economic and climate readiness solutions for communities throughout Atlantic Canada. Economic re-localization and climate readiness are mutually synergistic activities which communities can undertake to gain local agency over their future.
The Centre organizes conferences, small community based working sessions and intensive retreats, and also conducts evidence-based studies that often lead to community and government consultation and implementation. We draw on examples throughout the world and right here at home. Our work draws its strength through citizen, business and local government collaboration. We encourage practical, innovative and experimental community development initiatives and sustainable business practices.
The Centre draws on the work and wisdom of Wendell Berry, Jane Jacobs, Fritz Schumacher, Susan Witt and many others who understand how best a local community can begin to re-localize and regain control of their own economic future. We network with leading voices in Atlantic Canada, nationally and internationally in order to help guide communities and organizations in finding ways to implement new narratives that address climate change, economic fragility, and global supply disruption.
As the Centre enters its seventh year of operation, we are expanding our scope and currently seeking a passionate individual to fill the new position of Director of Development and Operations. While this position is initially part-time, it is intended to quickly lead to a full-time senior role within the Centre. The successful candidate will work directly with the Centre’s staff, board and advisors. The position is expected to start in May 2021. Compensation and time commitment is negotiable and commensurate with experience.

- Fundraising from private foundations, governments and individuals to support these activities
- Assisting communication staff with building and implementing a robust communication plan
- Assisting the Executive Director and board with long-term planning, as well as existing projects and studies
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and comfortable working independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their commitment to the ethos and aspirations of the Centre, and will have a willingness to help create and secure a permanent long-term position as the Centre grows.
