This project is funded by the Government of Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada. It is managed and delivered by Energy Mix Productions and Basic Income Canada Network in collaboration with Basic Income Canada Youth Network, Coalition Canada: basic Income - revenu de base, national experts and local partners.
Project Description
As Canada transitions to a low-carbon economy, we are undertaking a dialogue with 25 to 35 communities across Canada to explore and demonstrate the extent to which the low-carbon transition and reimagined income security can complement each other to create a foundation for community resilience and stability.
The local dialogues will seek to create a “brave space” for people whose jobs may be directly affected by the transition, but also for people who are often left out of the discussion on climate change, such as those who emerged as essential workers during the pandemic (for example, in care facilities and groceries) and others who are currently unemployed, marginally or precariously employed. The dialogues will be focused on developing a broader understanding of how the shift away from today’s carbon-intensive economy can also create new opportunities, new jobs and local self-reliance, which income security is meant to support.
