Position: Woodworking Program Coordinator
Hours of work: Full-time, Term Position (37.5 hours/week including daytime, some evenings and weekends
Job Summary
Under the advisory of the FortWhyte Farms Co-Managers, the Woodworking Studio Coordinator oversees the development and implementation of programming and other activities in the new Ben & Rose Puchniak Woodworking Studio at FortWhyte Farms (FWF). FWF is a social enterprise program of FortWhyte Alive working with under-served youth to grow food, build leadership skills and offer programs that develop vocational and life skills in youth through hands-on experiential learning. This is a brand new position at FWF and the selected candidate will demonstrate capacity to design and execute curriculum and programming as well as coordinate activities that support the long-term sustainability of the woodworking studio social enterprise.
Principal Tasks
- Program development for year-round youth woodworking programming
- Woodworking program facilitation and youth mentorship
- Coordinate social enterprise activities, including product development, workshops and facility rentals
- Develop safety protocols and conduct safety training for all users of the woodworking studio
- Maintain professional standards and certifications required for operation of the woodworking studio
- Build partnerships with outside community groups, businesses and institutions to help bridge youth to further employment and educational opportunities
- Transportation of youth program participants in 15-passenger van as needed
- Support the delivery of other farm programming including horticultural activities and kitchen programs as needed
- Support fund development for the ongoing operations of the woodworking studio
- Deliver public programs
- Train and supervise woodworking volunteers
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience and/or education in woodworking/carpentry, as well as experience teaching these subjects to others
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills
- Must be passionate about mentoring/teaching youth from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Must be adaptable, understanding and patient
- Must have enthusiasm and motivation in program planning and curriculum development
- Must be willing to collaborate with other FortWhyte Alive staff to achieve overall goals of FortWhyte Farms’ programming and FWA mission
- Familiarity with the social enterprise model and ability to plan revenue-generating activities
- Experience with grant writing and reporting is an asset
- Class 4 driver’s license is an asset and will be required upon employment
