You are here

Momentum has a unique opportunity to provide a six-month paid work experience placement to an Indigenous youth to work as a member of our Skills team. Check out Momentum’s website for our mission, vision and values, and to see how the Skills team prepares people to get good jobs.

The Organization:

Momentum is an award-winning and nationally recognized community economic development organization utilizing innovative approaches to poverty reduction. We use financial empowerment, skills training, and small business development as tools to empower people as they exit poverty.

Momentum is an employer of choice and has been recognized as one of Alberta’s Top 70 Employers. We provide competitive compensation with an unparalleled work environment. We are professional and diverse, so you’ll find a range of people and backgrounds working here: from MBAs to Social Workers and everything in between.

Who we are looking for:

This successful candidate will be an Indigenous youth, under 30, preferably from Treaty Seven Territory, and not currently in education, training, or employment. The youth will work with our existing team of facilitators to learn about Momentum’s skills training programs, assist with program recruitment, administration, and participant support, as well as fully immerse themselves in Momentum’s activities and culture.

This person will also contribute to the design of a new technology training program for Indigenous persons, particularly the cultural considerations and opportunities. Momentum has actively been building and strengthening its relationships with Indigenous organizations over the last number of years, and this person will be an asset to us in this work.

And finally, this six-month work experience placement could lead to full time employment with Momentum as the facilitator of the new Technology Foundations for Indigenous Persons program, launching early in 2022.

If you are someone who is friendly and outgoing and great at forming relationships with different people, if you have good interpersonal and communication skills, you have experience working with Indigenous people and knowledge of Indigenous ways, you’re good at making decisions, you’re results-oriented, creative, work well independently or on a team, and you’re comfortable using a computer, then you just might be who we’re looking for.

And on our side, we’re committed to your success. Staff are non-judgmental and receptive in approach and reflect genuine concern, respect and commitment towards the individual, family and community. As a learning organization, Momentum staff are expected to continuously develop professionally and personally. We’re serious about our work but we love to celebrate and have fun along the way. We have high standards within a supportive
setting that allows us to achieve a lot and have meaningful impact in the community. We’re good corporate citizens with sustainability being one of our values and take care to reduce our environmental footprint.
