Curriculum Review for Financial Sustainability Series

Background
The Canadian Community Economic Development Network - Manitoba (CCEDNet-MB) is the regional member network of the national Canadian CED Network. CCEDNet-MB’s membership is made up of community-based, social economy enterprises working towards inclusive and sustainable communities and economies. The membership largely consists of non-profit organizations, social enterprises, and cooperatives.

CCEDNet-MB’s programming is member-led, with current strategic priorities of building strength, connection, knowledge, and power.

Manitoba Learns is a program of CCEDNet-MB’s that builds strength, knowledge, and connection in community organizations and social economy enterprises through more informed and skilled practitioners. Activities within this program include topical peer learning on community economic development theory and practice, community-led public policy training, and our annual conference the Gathering.

The Financial Sustainability Series is a workshop series CCEDNet-MB offered from 2011 through 2018 (See Appendix A for a full series overview and Appendix B for the previously used curriculum). The workshop is targeted to people in charge of planning and budgets for their organization, such as EDs or program managers. Over a series of sessions participants learn about organizational sustainability, create a 5-year budget forecast for their organization, and explore several tools for assessing their current situation, making sound financial planning decisions, and identifying strategies for fundraising.

Opportunity – Required Curriculum Review

The Financial Sustainability Series is a unique offering that will be offered again through CCEDNet-MB’s Manitoba Learns program. Recent dynamics and changes in the funding landscape for social economy organizations make sound financial planning more important than ever. CCEDNet-MB is seeking a curriculum developer to review the curriculum and update it for the current context

Required deliverables:
Complete professional curriculum document with facilitator notes, handouts, and evaluation guidelines for each workshop.

There are options for the scope of this curriculum redevelopment:

1. Conduct a review of the financial sustainability series curriculum and update it considering recent changes to the financial environment social economy actors operate within, including imperatives around inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and responding to climate and ecological crises.

2. In addition to the above, expand the scope of the curriculum to include topics of earned revenue through social enterprise, and concepts and practice related to the emerging field of social finance.

Budget
Up to $5,000.

Timeline
Responses to the RFP will be collected until September 14, 2021. The successful applicant will be informed by September 24, 2021. Preference is for all work to be completed by end of October 2021.
