Wahbung Abinoonjiiag is a domestic violence prevention, healing and crisis center, established in 1994 to empower children and their families to end the cycle of violence. Wahbung Abinoonjiiag "Children of Tomorrow" is an Indigenous organization, providing opportunities for holistic healing through culturally-relevant teachings, programs, advocacy and counselling.

Background:

Under the direction of the Manager of Programs and Administration, the Resource Support Worker will serve as a central hub of information and streamline access to resources and basic needs services for participants. The Resource Support Worker will act as a connector between internal programming/services and external supports through collateral agencies to address the unique and evolving needs of individuals and families experiencing gender-based violence, family violence, domestic violence and/or intimate partner violence, in the midst of a global pandemic. The Resource Support Worker will function as the first point of contact for community members and visitors to Wahbung Abinoonjiiag and will maintain a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who live, work and play at our centre. The Resource Support Worker will work both independently and within an interconnected team setting, effectively balancing administrative reception duties, while building successful working relationships with families and maintaining the integrity, philosophy and values of the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain an evolving pool of resources, readily accessible for participants, volunteers and staff team;
  • Responsible for handling front office receptionist and administrative duties, including: greeting guests, ensuring COVID-19 protocol adherence, fostering a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, answering telephone/online inquiries and general administrative duties;
  • Serves as the first point of contact for community and visitors, providing assistance to individuals by responding to routine questions, providing general information, triage of crisis and emergency services, systems navigation support, coupled with access and referrals to evolving internal and external community support services;
  • Responsible for attending all meetings pertaining to the program and position (including community coalitions/committees, as directed), assisting with the facilitation of community council meetings and community engagement activities;
  • Provide administrative and building operations support for the Management Team;
  • Assist with community outreach and engagement activities (resource database development, social media/online communications and Community Council initiatives);
  • Work with the Management Team and Coordinators Team to ensure all safety procedures, policies and protocols are adequately met;
  • Provide organizational support for special events, meetings and external events in centre;
  • Work collaboratively and build respectful and effective relationships with other staff, volunteers and families;
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Acceptable combination of education and work experience related to the position, degree, certification and/or relevant life experience considered an asset;
  • Knowledge and experience with staff supervision and coordination and of community-based programming;
  • Experience working with individuals and families who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence;
  • Experience working in community-based organizations, family resource centres within the inner city and/or Indigenous communities in a not-for-profit setting;
  • Patient, non-judgmental and welcoming with demonstrated capacity to effectively support and build positive relationships with community members facing multiple barriers to obtaining and maintaining safe, affordable and stable housing solutions;
  • Proven knowledge and ability in critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and the impact of colonization on the health and well- being of Indigenous children and families;
  • Proven ability to work within and lead a team environment with respect, professionalism, cooperation, sensitivity and cultural awareness;
  • Strong community engagement, networking and partnership skills;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational, leadership and time management skills; and,
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel is considered an asset.

Salary:

  • Contingent on experience/qualifications

Hours of Work:

  • Full-Time Term Position covering maternity leave, 37.5 hours per week until March 31, 2022, with possibility of extension. Must be available days, evenings and occasional weekends.
