Quixote House/Massie House Manager
Future Hope is looking for an experienced candidate to fill our Quixote House /Massie House Manager, (QH/MH Manager). It is a full-time position at 40 hours a week, has several areas of responsibility and reports to the Future Hope Director. Future Hope is a non-profit charity that helps transition adult male prisoners from Federal Prison to community by accompanying them through our various programs. The QH/MH Manager will be responsible for our substance-free transitional housing programs. Quixote House is an intentional, congregate living house that accepts adult male parolees approved by our Next Step program’s intake process. Massie House provides transitional independent apartment-living for male graduates of our Quixote House program. This position will be a good fit for individuals interested in non-profit community work, capacity-building and program management that fosters adult peer learning and support. Future Hope endeavors to foster a safe, diverse and inclusive environment where individual differences are accepted, and all persons feel valued, respected and supported.
Future Hope programs are about accompanying through relationship building. A sizable portion of the QH/MH Manager’s role is to build relationships and accompany men as they continue their reintegration journey on parole. Other duties include the management of the properties and ensuring the safety of all residents while running the housing programs.
Future Hope is looking into providing services to men incarcerated in provincial correctional institutions down the road.
Future Hope is looking for a candidate who has these strengths:
- A combination of education and/or lived experience and/or experience working with incarcerated men.
- Possess knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous, diversity and inclusion perspectives; prior cultural awareness and/or sensitivity training an asset.
- Previous working experience in the non-profit sector considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational and management skills; able to set priorities, follow through and meet deadlines.
- Can work independently and is self-directed; can work flexible hours.
- Be team-oriented and enjoy working in a small, focused team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, open minded, non-judgemental, excellent listening and mentoring/support skills.
- Can assess and deal with emergencies; has excellent communication, problem assessment and problem-solving skills.
- Money management/shopping skills.
- Can speak and write English with high proficiency; can develop and generate reports to Future Hope Director.
- Computer competence in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook; able to maintain an electronic filing system.
- A valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Is double Covid-19 vaccinated per public health orders; proof of vaccination required.
- Ability to live in a self-contained living space on the premises considered a strong asset.
- Residential tenancy will be discussed during job interview.
Job Description:
- Responsible for the admission/eviction and rent collection of the transitional houses for adult men.
- Work collaboratively and synergistically with the Next Step Coordinator, Future Hope Director and parole officers to ensure the smooth running of the QH/MH programs.
- Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with officials from federal and provincial correctional institutions.
- Coordinate all activities and events related to the QH/MH programs and assist in the implementation of special Future Hope events or new initiatives.
- Engage and coordinate QH’s volunteer-base.
- Respond to program participants’ individual needs for practical assistance, accompaniment, counsel and support.
- Attend immediately to program participants requiring crisis management to determine appropriate service level response. After assessing risk, call Next Step Coordinator, Future Hope Director and if warranted, First Responders to assist.
- Create and keep all appropriate documentation required by Future Hope.
- Attend staff, board or committee meetings, other meetings or community events when requested.
- Monitor operating budgets for both houses, liaise with EIA (Income Assistance), manage payment of monthly household bills/paperwork, shopping for QH, small and general maintenance and upkeep at both houses, internal and external house cleaning including installing, cleaning and storing of QH’s AC units.
- Maintain regular contact with Landlords, and/or service contractors as needed.
- Make certain that premises are secure, that health and safety guidelines and protocols are adhered to support the health and well-being of all program participants, staff and program volunteers.
Salary range: $45,000 to $55,000
