Position Summary

Herizons, Canada’s foremost feminist magazine, is seeking a Winnipeg-based senior editor to oversee the production of a dynamic quarterly dedicated to an intersectional vision of feminism, gender equality and social justice.

The part-time senior editor (17.5 hours per week), working remotely, will cultivate relationships with a diverse base of feminist writers from various communities and representing identities, to create content that will enrich Herizons reputation as a respected Canadian feminist magazine.  

Experience in all aspects of editorial oversight is required, and the senior editor will embrace and reflect a diverse and inclusive feminist vision for Herizons national readership. Works closely with the managing editor, who oversees operations.

We are looking for an editor with publishing expertise, and a demonstrated ability to work independently in a cooperative environment. Must have strong writing skills, proven editing skills, a keen interest in developing a strong voice as editor of a feminist magazine, and a working knowledge of magazines and media in Canada. Expertise working collaboratively with graphic designer, and some social media engagement required.

Qualifications: 

  1. Combination of 5 years relevant education, training and experience as a professional writer, editor or publishing professional;
  2. Proven management or leadership experience;
  3. Extensive knowledge of, and direct involvement in, Canadian feminist and other social justice movements; direct experience working within an intersectional feminist framework;
  4. Familiarity with various styles of magazine writing, and solid knowledge of journalistic standards and practices, such as proper attribution of sources, fact checking etc.
  5. Is detail-oriented, can work independently, meet deadlines and work collaboratively.

Salary:

Permanent part-time. $24-$27 per hour/ 17.5 hours per week ($21,840 to $24,570 per year). Plus stipend for office costs.
