Momentum and SEED Winnipeg Named Financial Empowerment Champions
CCEDNet members Momentum (in Calgary) and SEED Winnipeg were among the first organizations named in Prosper Canada's first selection of Financial Empowerment Champion organizations. Each organization will be provided with up to $150,000 in funding annually over 5 years and the training, tools and resources they need to measurably improve the financial well-being of 175,000 Canadians living on low incomes in their communities.
Five Projects Receive Grants through the Doing Business Differently Program
The Conseil de la coopération de l'Ontario (CCO), a member of the Canadian CED Network, is proud to announce the recipients of five grants, as part of the Doing Business Differently program. The program is aimed at developing social enterprise projects within non-for-profit organizations. Five municipalities have benefited from this initiative: Toronto, London, Windsor, Welland and Penetanguishene.
One of the grants is to develop a Library of Things + Makerspace for the Niagara Region on which Tom Jakop, CCEDNet Communications Assistant, is working. If you'd like to get involved, contact him.
Communities Around the World Release Evaluations on Local Health and Well-Being
Communities across Canada, the United Kingdom and elsewhere around the world are taking a closer look at local health and well-being through their participation in Vital Signs – a global program designed to measure community vitality.
The community reports, first started by Toronto Foundation in 2001, are used by communities around the globe to inspire civic engagement and provide focus for public dialogue.
New Report: Discussions on Social Enterprise Financing in Manitoba
Social Enterprise Manitoba (an initiative of the Canadian CED Network Manitoba) is happy to announce the release of a new report, looking at the social enterprise financing landscape in Manitoba. The report authors interview members of the Winnipeg Social Finance Working Group as well as private consultants to get a snap shot of the opportunities and challenges social enterprises face for accessing financing, and where sector leaders should focus their efforts to improve the Manitoba landscape.

Scotland's social enterprise sector & Manitoba: Lessons from across the pond

In September, Community Enterprise in Scotland hosted a group of Canadians for a week-long immersion in Scottish social enterprise programming, policy and practice. Canadians from four provinces, federal and provincial governments, social enterprise practitioners and network leaders travelled and learned together from Scotland’s thriving social enterprise sector.
And why Scotland? In 2015, Scotland had over 5000 social enterprises with over 200 new ones forming each year. With an estimated $5.8 billion (CDN $) in income employing an estimated 112,000 people, the Scottish social enterprise sector plays a key role in their economy and communities.

Exploring Impact Measurement for Social Enterprises in Ontario
The Mowat Centre's Not-for-profit Policy Research Hub developed the Unpacking Impact report to provide context on the issue of impact measurement for social enterprises in Ontario and distill the challenges into key themes. The report also identifies leading impact measurement practices for social enterprises globally. Finally it provides recommendations on a way forward for all actors in the social enterprise ecosystem.
Status of Social Economy Development in Seoul: A Case Study of Seoul
The Korean social economy has grown at a remarkable pace over the last few years, attracting attention from around the world. This report summarizes and explains the findings of the Study on the Social Economy Policies of the 25 Self-Governing Boroughs of Seoul, which the Karl Polanyi Institute Asia (KPIA) implemented in the first half of 2016 upon request from the Global Social Economy Forum (GSEF). This report also summarizes some of the major social economy policy initiatives in Seoul as well as a section of the results of an opinion poll.
