Responsibility:

The Placement Facilitator reports to the Skills Training Manager. The Placement Facilitator will participate in and support the vision of the Trades program and will focus upon obtaining, monitoring and reporting on the work experience and employment placements for Trades Training participants. The position supports the Trades Training program with marketing, promotion, interviewing, and selection of the participants. The Placement Facilitator will support ongoing projects as determined by the needs of the Trades Training program.

Objectives:

Work Experience Placement

Outcomes:

All participants are placed in a quality work experience that meets their interests and abilities.

Employers understand our program and wish to participate in becoming work experience hosts.

Indicators:

50% of participants are hired on by their work experience host.

80% of participants report satisfaction with their work experience.

75% of participants are employed in their field 6 months after training ends.

Databank of employers continues to grow. 3 new work experience employers per program/year.

Each contact has a tracking mechanism for future data analysis needs
Employers:
  • Maintain and enhance a list of potential Work Experience Hosts for participants starting with the employer base already established and adding new contacts as required.
  • Establish working relationships with industry associations, native bands, unions and individual employers in order to facilitate the placement process.
  • Visit employers who indicate an interest in Work Experience, share information, and inspect the worksite.
  • Ensure work experience expectations are clear to employers: prepare and discuss a Work Experience agreement with employers.
  • Obtain employer evaluations at the end of the period.
Participants:
  • Establish rapport with each participant through interviews, classroom involvement, and participation in informal social events, etc.
  • In collaboration with employment-life skills instructor ensure participant resumes are up to standard to gain employment.
  • Ensure work experience expectations are clear to participants.
  • Visit each participant at the placement, a minimum of one time during the work experience period.
  • Evaluate/document each participant’s progress during this period and address issues as they arise, in consultation with the Program Facilitator.
  • Make contact with participant’s supervisor at each visit to obtain evaluations, provide information, and ensure the participant is receiving adequate supervision, etc.
  • Obtain participant evaluations and time sheets at suitable intervals.
  • Assist students with job search in the event their work experience placement doesn’t result in a job.
  • Maintain contact throughout the 180-day follow up period to ensure participants are still working
  • Complete the formal 2 week, 90 day and 180 day follow up reports.
  • Participate in, and support of the Momentum Alumni Project.

Coordinate Employment Support

Outcomes:

Participants develop skills and knowledge appropriate to the trade.
Strong working relationships maintained with SAIT and the Apprenticeship Board.
The instruction meets the needs of participants and employers.

Indicators:

80% of employers report satisfaction with the quality of our participants on the job.
  • Take a lead role to ensure all arrangements for technical training are in place on first day of work experience.
  • Take a lead role, to ensure all arrangements for Pre-apprenticeship exam are in place with the apprenticeship board.
  • Visit the participants weekly while in technical training to monitor progress.
  • Conduct workshops to prepare participants for success in the work experience, and employment as required
  • Liaison with the Apprenticeship Board.
  • Apply for SAIT registration, on behalf of the participants.
  • Liaise regularly with the SAIT Coordinator and instructor, in consultation with the Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure time sheets and student and instructor evaluations are completed after technical training components.
  • Support the efforts of the Employers, to ensure the SAIT training is relevant.
  • Support the needs of the participants while they establish their credibility with an employer.
  • Facilitate employment support post graduation.
  • Facilitate employment success for all past graduates

Trades Training Program Support

Outcomes:

Program is well known to partner agencies and general public. The number of applications generates sufficient and appropriate applicants for the program to be successful.

Indicator:40 appropriate participants registered for the program and successful to meet employment indicators.
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator on marketing and advertising the program.
  • Participate in participant intake interviews and the selection decisions.
  • Maintain a good knowledge of issues affecting participants and our program.
  • Maintain existing record keeping systems on participants and employers, including recording and summarizing of evaluations.
  • Implement continuous quality improvements in the program.
  • Analyze the data collected for trends and issues to address in future trainings.
  • Assist in the planning of and preparation for special events.
  • Lead and complete the required follow-ups and document accordingly in Mobius.
  • Follow up with the participant support, based upon the data gleaned at the 90 + 180 day follow-ups
  • Participate in labour market research when required.
  • Attend the program staff meetings.
  • Support the vision and direction of the Trades Training Program

Complete administrative duties

Outcome:

Program is supported and engaged in organizational activities.

Indicators:

100% of reports submitted accurately and on time.
Participation in staff events
  • Complete the quarterly program report, in a timely fashion.
  • Complete other duties or projects as defined through the business plan, in consultation with the Skills Training Manager and the Program Coordinator.
  • Cross train and keep up to date on Coordinator activities/responsibilities.
  • Act for Program Facilitator in their absence.
  • Participate in organization related activities – monthly chores, reception cover off, etc.
  • Participate on internal committees.
  • Attend general staff meetings.
  • Board/Staff retreat, staff team building retreat.

Additional Duties

Employer engagement strategy is current and implemented
Trades benchmarking project is complete
Develop Trades employers specific
Momentum marketing tools

  • Plan, prepare, create, assist, in special projects to support and achieve the team and organizational business plan objectives
  • Develop project parameters, outcomes and indicators.
  • Support aims and goals of the special projects

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree, or other relevant combination of experience and education: career development, community economic development, social services or adult education
  • Demonstrated success with work training/placements and employment outcomes
  • Experience in working with multi-cultural and/or highly barriered clients
  • Strong knowledge of trades and the apprenticeship system
  • Ability to use your network and the hidden job market to secure job placements
  • Understanding of the industrial labour market
  • Results oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills
  • Tenacious, persistent, professional
  • Demonstrated ability to network, build and maintain excellent relationships
  • Able to work independently and take a high degree of initiative, as part of a dynamic team
  • Sound knowledge of computers and MS Office environment and tools to manage
  • Ability to collect and maintain program information (ie. data collection, documented processes)
  • Creative, compassionate and flexible regarding work schedule
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent coordination and analytical skills
  • Must have access to a vehicle
  • Knowledge of CED and evaluation issues considered an asset
