Description
Working on CEDECs Co-op Vocational Training Program; A Pilot Project to Train Workers for the Northern Airline Industry, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of a communications plan. The communications coordinator will also draft and edit content such as media releases, reports, publicity items, social media posts and will lead the design of promotional items, documentary video production, webinars, and dissemination of project progress.
Expectations and Responsibilities:
- Prepare a quarterly communications plan to be reviewed and approved. Prepare and present monthly analytics reports on results obtained.
- Monitor the press for issues related to CEDECs Co-op Vocational Training Program
- Website: Manage project website and its content. Monitor the effectiveness of site using analytic software and make changes as required.
- Graphic Design: Design and update promotional materials as required using Adobe Creative Suite software and/or coordinate with external graphic designer (s)
- Media Buying: Work with project team to determine media requirements for annual campaigns. Using a campaign strategy, determine the budget, plan the frequency and placements and make the media buy based on CEDEC purchasing guidelines.
- Media Relations: Proactively seek media coverage for newsworthy initiatives. Develop press releases, fact sheets and backgrounders. Plan media launches; act as, or work with, designated spokesperson and coordinate interviews for print and radio.
- Event Planning: Plan, promote and host events that showcase CEDECs Co-op Vocational Training Program. Identify conference, tradeshows and alike where CEDEC should be present, book and manage CEDECs presence at those venues.
- Social Media: Development and/or management of authorized social media accounts including content posted on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. Execute the social media marketing plan and refine the voice, image and narrative for these same accounts in relation to CEDEC brand policy
- Presentations: Develop presentations, using PowerPoint (or other) when necessary. Work with project team to deliver presentations and workshops.
- Dynamically represent CEDEC for the purpose of government liaison and community relations.
- Assume any other related duties compatible with experience and qualifications as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer and/or Operations Manager.
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary education in a discipline relevant to communications, marketing, journalism, public relations and 3 years of progressive and pertinent work experience
- Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating communication plans and materials
- Bilingual: English and French (spoken and written)
- Strong computer literacy with demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office (including Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe etc.)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to work independently and function well in a team environment.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, including facilitation, presentation and editing skills to write, edit, and present.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with and establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with people from various levels within Cree and Northern Communities.
- Ability to explain complex concepts in plain language to a diverse audience.
- Demonstrated ability in successfully delivering projects under tight deadlines.
- Well-developed project management skills to coordinate projects.
- Ability to work in a flexible structure.
- Willingness to work overtime with short notice.
- Ability to travel to Northern Quebec (up to 40% of the time during initial phases of project).
