White Paper for Supporting People with Disabilities

Work & Contribution Discussion Icon

The B.C. government, with the disability and business communities, is holding a province-wide conversation to see what we, as a society, can do to reduce barriers and increase accessibility for people living with disabilities. You’re invited to share your thoughts about how government, businesses and communities can better support people with disabilities to fully participate in our communities. The face-to-face community consultations begin January 20th while other online forums are available to those unable to attend these consultations. The consultation will closes on March 11th.

 

New Social Enterprise Pitch Event on Vancouver Island

Champions for Change: Leading a Backbone Organization for Collective Impact

Champions for ChangeChampions for Change is a multi-day interactive workshop designed specifically for the leaders of Leadership Roundtables, Coordinating Committees or Backbone Organizations of mature collective impact initiatives. The Tamarack Institute and FSG have partnered to develop this dynamic learning experience to offer leaders of Backbone Organizations an advanced learning opportunity designed exclusively to develop their capacity as collaborative leaders.


BCCA Launches Momentum Centre for New and Emerging Co-ops

The BC Co-op Association (BCCA) has consolidated resources from across the province to form the Momentum Centre — a resource hub for new and emerging co-ops. Advisory services will be available through the centre, including co-op courses, mentorship and “Co-op Expert Office Hours” throughout the year.

Consultation on the Canada Business Corporations Act

Industry Canada has launched a 90-day consultation on the Canada Business Corporations Act (CBCA). Importantly, one of the items under consideration is the incorporation of hybrid enterprises, titled Socially Responsible Enterprises (SREs), which are broadly defined as entities who use a “commercial business model to encourage social change.” Submissions are being accepted until March 11, 2014.


Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada to Launch in April

CCA AGM Vote to Create "Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada"Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC), Canada's new national association representing co-operative and mutual enterprises, will officially launch its operations on April 1, 2014. This new bilingual organization is a result of years of discussion between the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) and the Conseil canadien de la coopération et de la mutualité (CCCM) as to how to bring together Canada's English and French-speaking co-operators. CCCM ended its program activities at the end of 2013 but CCA will continue to exist to carry out international co-operative development programming.
