New Economy Week 2013

Seven days of action toward a more just and sustainable world

New Economy Week is a week of celebration designed to shine a light on the movement to build a new economy – an economy that is restorative to people, place, and the planet. From October 12-18, we will be highlighting events, actions, reports, works of art, and other projects that promote the principles of democracy, justice, and sustainability.

From October 12-18, the New Economy Coalition will be highlighting events, actions, reports, works of art, and other projects all across the United States and Canada.  By calling attention to the thousands of things people are doing right now to build a new kind of economy, we hope to inspire more participation in this movement and catalyze a national conversation on the need for deep, systemic change.

CCEDNet is a partner of New Economy Week and member of the New Economy Coalition.

Innovation Through Co-operation

Panel discussion featuring Scott Banda, CEO of Federated Co-operatives Limited

October 15, 2013, 1:30pm - 3:00pm
Mount Royal University
4825 Mt Royal Gate SW, Calgary
(Exact venue to be confirmed)
Canada's Public Policy Forum is bringing together leaders across sectors to share perspectives on the current and future role of co-operatives in Canada. Following the success of the first two events in our discussion series, Innovation through Cooperation, our next session will take place at Mount Royal University from 1:30pm to 3:00pm on October 15th, 2013. I would like to personally invite you or someone from your organization to the panel discussion exploring co-operatives as a tool for sustainable prosperity.

Hosted by Dr. David C. Docherty, President of Mount Royal University, and David J. Mitchell, President and CEO of the Public Policy Forum, Innovation through Cooperation - Calgary will feature Scott Banda, CEO of Federated Co-operatives Limited, in conversation with leaders from within and outside the co-op movement, including:
  • Murray Fulton, Fellow in Agricultural Co-operation, Centre for the Study of Cooperatives, University of Saskatchewan
  • Shona McGlashan, Chief Governance Officer, Mountain Equipment Co-op
  • Peter Watson, Deputy Minister of the Alberta Executive Council
Successfully implemented around the world, the co-operative business model is widely regarded as an innovative approach to delivering the triple bottom line. With over 9,000 co-ops and credit unions across Canada, the co-operative model plays an important role in our economic, social, and personal lives. This timely discussion series builds on the Forum's recent work in economic and social innovation by exploring the wide-ranging impact of co-ops, emerging trends in the sector, and opportunities for collaboration.
