Co-op Week 2013: A Better Way

In these times of economic uncertainty, many Canadians are looking for alternatives to traditional business models.  They want to see businesses that are sustainable, democratic, socially-conscious and rooted in their communities.  They want businesses that put people first and are guided by values and principles, not just profits.  And they want businesses that contribute to creating better communities, a better Canada and a better world.  In short, they want a better way to do business.

That’s why the theme of Co-op Week 2013 is A Better Way.  From October 13-19, co-operators across the country will be highlighting the many ways in which co-operatives make things better, both here in Canada and around the world.  In French, the theme will be Coopérer pour un monde meilleur (Co-operating for a better world).

The theme was chosen by a national committee of co-operative communicators from across Canada, chaired by CCA and the Conseil canadien de la coopération et de la mutualité (CCCM).

International Credit Union Day

International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history and to promote its achievements. It is a day to honor those who have dedicated their lives to the movement, recognize the hard work of those working in the credit union industry and show members our appreciation.

The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the great work that credit unions are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more involved. Credit unions and associations throughout the world celebrate the day with open houses, contests, picnics and parades.

World Council of Credit Unions has provided its members with ICU Day materials for over 30 years. Check back here for this year's materials as we get closer to the day!

World Council no longer distributes posters. Promotional materials, logo and other ideas to help celebrate International Credit Union Day will soon be available.
