Come see what we've been up to and how alternatives to business as usual are transforming the economic landscape in this city.
This night is an opportunity for us at Groundswell to present the projects we have been developing this year, talk about our journey within the program, and open our space to those who are interested in work that contributes to new economic thinking.
We hope to not only raise awareness and canvas support for our work, but help form a community of people interested in embracing the challenges ahead for the new economy.

2015 Building Opportunities: Connecting Possibilities
A conference on development and management of nonprofit shared spaces and social purpose real estate.
Who should attend
This conference is designed for anyone interested in sustainable community development, cutting edge financing of real estate projects, efficient operations, quality workspace, and innovative shared services for the nonprofit sector.
- New Projects in Development will gain practical tools to save time and money by avoiding costly mistakes while learning about diverse, innovative models for social purpose real estate, shared workspace, administrative services, technology, and programs.
- Established Projects will benefit from sharing common experiences and best practices on the challenges and opportunities of ongoing management.
- Renovation and Expansion Projects will gather new ideas and resources for next stage financing, restructuring/course corrections, and enhancing their center through innovative models for sharing space and services.
- Developers and Other Private Sector Representatives will learn about opportunities in their communities and how cross-sectoral partnerships work and how they can enhance private sector developments.
- Service Firms will learn about new developments across the North American nonprofit sector and the potential for public-private partnerships.
- Shared Services Organizations will learn how to increase operating efficiency, gain financial stability, improve access to high-quality services by designing effective shared services programs, and explore linkages with bricks and mortar projects.
- Foundations and Donors will find ways to enhance and amplify their funding and program-related investments aimed at strengthening nonprofit capacity, infrastructure, and community economic development.
- Municipal and Government Officials will learn how nonprofit organizations are collaborating with government agencies to leverage resources and support community development.

Al Etmanski | BIO
Al Etmanski is a community organizer, social entrepreneur and author. He is a founding partner of Social Innovation Generation (SiG) and BC Partners for Social Impact. Previously, he co-founded Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) with his wife Vickie Cammack and Jack Collins. Al is an Ashoka fellow, and a faculty member of John McKnight’s Asset Based Community Development Institute (ABCD). He once played air guitar with Randy Bachman of BTO (Bachman-Turner-Overdrive) in a rock video which convinced him to stick with his day job.
