A Good Place to Live Screening
The Department of Urban and Inner-City Studies invites all to a free public screening of A Good Place to Live, followed by a Q and A discussion with Lord Selkirk Park community members and Professor Jim Silver.
Directed by Ian Mauro and Jim Silver, the film about Lord Selkirk Park (LSP), a public housing initiative in Winnipeg's North End, explores the successful renewal of this inner-city community "from within". LSP was once "housing of last resort" for its many Indigenous residents who lived in a concentrated and racialized form of poverty. To overcome these issues, various community leaders, academics and government partners began a revitalization process, and have demonstrated that public housing can be a "Good Place to Live". This film engages community members about their experiences transforming LSP and their very lives in the process.
