How the System Works and How to Work the System: A Primer on Influencing Public-Policy

This workshop will teach participants how to organize their time, resources and issue management to effectively influence decisions of government. In this highly interactive session, participants will be provided with tools to get them started - or help them re-think their current approach.

The Advocacy School in a one-day workshop focused on influencing public policy. The workshop will be of most interest to individuals who are newer practitioners as well as more experienced practitioners seeking to both share their experience and hone their skills.

Fee: $100 per person (if cost is a barrier to participation, please call Linda Brazier at 924-4225).

Themes include:

  • Definitions, rules and assumptions
  • Reasons why organizations fail in their advocacy
  • How the “system” works – key features of political and government decision-making
  • How bad things happen to new ideas
