New Publication: Government Policies towards CED and the Social Economy in Quebec and Manitoba

This paper, prepared for the Canadian CED Network (CCEDNet), explores the state of CED/social economy activities in both Quebec and Manitoba and recent government policies in support of them. It seeks to separate out the similarities and differences between the two provinces and their underlying causes. It also suggests what might be unique about the two situations and, where this is thought not to be the case, what lessons others might usefully learn from them.

Dear Canadian CED Network members and partners:

Re: Resignation of Rupert Downing, Executive Director of the Canadian CED Network

The Canadian Community Economic Development Network (CCEDNet) Board of Directors regrets to announce the resignation of Rupert Downing, Executive Director. After more than six years in the position, Mr. Downing will be leaving us to move on to other areas of interest in the CED field while setting aside time to work on personal projects.

Social Enterprises and the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)

Date:
2008-01-01

In 2006 CCEDNet undertook a research initiative designed to identify areas for policy improvement related to social enterprises which employ persons in receipt of the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP). A recent policy forum sponsored by Ontario‟s Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) (Randolph Group, 2006) indicates that there is increased interest in the province to explore public policy options for supporting social enterprises. Thus this research may be particularly significant at this time.

Four goals were established for the research:
