Reports to the Project Coordinator

General Description

The incumbent candidate supports the learning experience of participants in Katimavik's volunteer service program. In this role, the candidate will have occasion to use her or his sense of leadership and organization skills within a Canadian community. She or he manages the dynamics and logistics related to group living. He will supervise every aspect of the project, including administration, managing the budget and liaising with the community.

Qualifications

  • A post secondary degree in education, social work, tourism and recreation or other related professional experience;
  • 2 to 3 years work experience, including experience with young people between 15 and 25 years of age;
  • Bilingualism;
  • Driver's license for a 12-passenger vehicle (or eligible to obtain it);
  • Satisfactory criminal record check;
  • Working knowledge of the MS software suite and the Internet;
  • Available to live with a group of eleven participants for the full duration of the mandate, in a region selected by the employer.

 Types of experience that represent an asset:

  • Experience in a youth program either as participant or facilitator;
  • Travel or work experience abroad;
  • Experience in coordinating activities.

Primary Responsibilities

Group dynamics

  • Facilitate and maintain a favorable climate for group living;
  • Insure that living and work areas are safe, healthy, and hygienic, in accordance with local or provincial regulations as well as Katimavik directives;
  • Ensure that participants take part in planned work and learning activities;
  • Apply rules of conduct, policies and procedures in conformity with the Katimavik national directives;
  • Ensure that participants receive necessary orientation and training;
  • Prepare participants for their return to daily life when the program concludes.

 Learning program

  • Ensure the planning and implementation of the learning program and its related activities, in conformity with the Katimavik national directives;
  • Evaluate to what extent the goals and objectives of the program components were attained;
  • Ensure follow-up on the individual learning plans of participants and facilitate their realization.

 Community relations

  • Promote a favorable image of the program in the host community;
  • Maintain good working relationships with Katimavik partner organizations, work supervisors and members of the local Katimavik committee;
  • Ensure an on-going liaison between participants, partner organizations and work supervisors;
  • Develop a community relations network and support participants' integration into the host community;
  • Communicate with local media regarding each key step of the project or event, in conformity with regional directives;
  • Contribute to the development of projects, at the request of the Regional Director.

 Administration, finances and logistics

  • Manage the project budget;
  • Account for all material and financial resources for the project;
  • Implement the project's logistical plans;
  • Ensure transportation of participants and maintain the project vehicle;
  • Submit the required reports, in conformity with Katimavik administrative directives.

 Work relationships

  • Work closely in collaboration with regional office personnel;
  • Complete all related tasks that the project coordinator may assign.

You need to be available for training in Calgary March 2010 and ready to move to Lethbridge it is a live in position, food lodging, travel is covered.

The position in Lethbridge starts March 1st 2010, and the one in St. Pierre Jolys starts April 14th 2010.
