The Société de développement économique de la Colombie Britannique or SDECB (The Francophone Economic Development Society of British Columbia) is seeking candidacies for a Marketing and Communications Agent summer position. The successful candidate will be responsible to oversee the communications activities surrounding the BC ÉCONOMUSÉE Initiative.
An ÉCONOMUSÉE is a for-profit craft or agrifood business that uses authentic, traditional production techniques or know-how. It is a living environment that showcases artisans by opening their workshops to the public and providing visitors with a unique and genuine learning experience. The ÉCONOMUSÉE network is international and recognized by UNESCO as a model for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. There are over 30 ÉCONOMUSÉES in Northern Europe and 50 in Canada, including 2 in British Columbia.
The Marketing and Communications Agent will work in a bilingual (French/English) environment and will report directly to the Project Manager in Victoria.
Responsibilities
Communications and Marketing Tools
- Research and assist in the development of a marketing and communications plan to promote the BC ÉCONOMUSÉE network to various target markets
- Develop a public relations and communications strategy to engage local and regional print, audio and visual media through various means including the writing of articles and press releases
- Expand upon the existing electronic marketing and communications strategy and develop content for the new ÉCONOMUSÉE website, social media, e-newsletter, blogs, etc.
- Participate in promotional events and activities when required
Primary Market Research
- Develop a survey to measure visitors’ expectations and satisfaction levels with their onsite ÉCONOMUSÉE experience
- Work with artisans to maintain an open dialogue throughout the research process
- Gather, analyse and write a report about the survey methodology and results
Event Coordination
- Assist in the planning, promotion and execution of the launch of a new ÉCONOMUSÉE in the fall of 2014
- Coordinate with the videographer and photographers to successfully carry out the summer audiovisual production
Other tasks
- Develop educational and promotional materials targeted at younger audiences
- Assist with the research and writing of grant applications
- Other tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Be currently enrolled at a Canadian university or college in marketing, communications, public relations, business administration or other related field (or recently graduated)
- Have the intention of going back to school in the fall of 2014
- Possess excellent research and communications skills (oral and in writing)
- Be bilingual in French and English (advanced)
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Be a team player and able to work independently
- Be able to multi-task and work under pressure
