Description

Working on CEDECs Co-op Vocational Training Program; A Pilot Project to Train Workers for the Northern Airline Industry, the Adult Learning Specialist is responsible for the coordination, facilitation and evaluation of a co-op vocational learning model that supports better skills alignment and improved employment outcomes for Northern Aboriginal people with low educational attainment in sectors experiencing a shortage of skilled labour.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, and execute a twenty-four month work plan to achieve anticipated results
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly progress reports
  • Lead an Adult Learning Support Team:
    • Coordinate the integration of andragogy support for the vocational teaching team from the vocational training center, including:
      • Vocational instructors
      • Essential skills specialist
      • Animator
      • Technical support
    • Assist in the recruitment, orientation and management of:
      • Andragogy support Consultant (Teaching Techniques)
      • Andragogy support Consultant (Curriculum)
      • Researchers (Practice)
  • Work with researchers to develop criteria for participant selection and curriculum adaptations/development.
  • Use data collection tools, developed by the researcher, to monitor and capture changes in training program delivery, teaching practices and student progression.
  • Facilitate the coordination of quality program delivery by the vocational teaching team.
  • Provide advice and recommendations related to the achievement of anticipated results.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to establish partnerships that will facilitate the delivery of the Co-op program.
  • Dynamically represent CEDEC for the purpose of government liaison and community relations.
  • Assume any other related duties compatible with experience and qualifications as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer and/or Operations Manager.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, diploma or certification in adult education or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience developing and delivering training to adults with low educational attainment.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Northern communities
  • Recent, progressively-responsible experience in successfully managing and/or coordinating complex learning, organizational development and performance improvement projects.
  • Experience in leading and facilitating teaching teams and in working with multiple stakeholders to deliver a product, program or service.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have used CAMERA (Communications and Math Employment Readiness Assessment): Workplace Literacy and Essential Skills Assessment tool and/or Employability Skills Assessment Tool (ESAT).
  • Bilingual: English and French (spoken and written)
  • Strong computer literacy with experience using Microsoft Office

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Applied knowledge of adult education theory, principles and practices for adults with low educational attainment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of learning theories, theories of instructional design, adult education principles, learning technologies, performance consulting, organizational learning practices, competency management and performance improvement tactics.
  • Demonstrated ability with advanced Microsoft Skills (i.e. PowerPoint and Word).
  • Proficient at using e-learning tools/software to design, develop and implement distance learning solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and function well in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including facilitation, presentation and editing skills to write, edit, and present a range of educational and training materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with people from various levels within Cree and Northern Communities.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in plain language to a diverse audience.
  • Demonstrated ability in successfully delivering projects under tight deadlines.
  • Well-developed project management skills to coordinate projects.
  • Ability to work in a flexible structure.
  • Willingness to work overtime with short notice.
  • Ability to travel to Northern Quebec (up to 40% of the time during initial phases of project)
