ABOUT Synergia Transition and Resilience Climate Action Program (STARCAP)

STARCAP is a collaborative project between CCEDNet, Synergia Co-operative Institute and Athabasca University. Our goal is to deliver a 16-week Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that presents theories and practices supporting system change and transition towards a political economy that is both socially just and environmentally sustainable. The MOOC will be delivered three times over three years, with 14 community partners across Canada.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Leading a first-of-its-kind project for CCEDNet, you will have the opportunity to co-ordinate the logistics for a cutting edge and innovative learning opportunity that will focus on equitable solutions to climate and ecological crises.

OPPORTUNITY

A program manager who thrives on creating online environments for empowerment and learning who is intrinsically motivated by intersectionality of just transition and community economies.

  • Manages the overall project by monitoring and implementing the work plan to ensure that CCEDNet’s contracted deliverables are completed on time and on budget.
  • Ensure the Management Committee and Advisory Committee meetings are run effectively and efficiently by coordination logistics, providing materials in advance, facilitating the agenda, taking detailed minutes and following up on action. 
  • Recruitment, selection, contracting and ongoing liaison with the 14 community partners who will be involved in the project. 
  • Develop and execute an online outreach plan to reach a variety of audiences who would be potential MOOC participants
  • Prepare accurate reports that meet the requirements of funding provided by Environment and Climate Change Canada. 
  • Support community partners with their responsibilities related to participant recruitment, study circle convenings and action groups.
  • Support Athabasca University with project monitoring and evaluation to document learning about effective learning to catalyze action for community transition and resilience. 

TEAM & ENVIRONMENT

As part of the Learning and Innovation Team at CCEDNet, you will report directly to the Director of Learning and Innovation.  At CCEDNet, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with staff team members working on national and regional engagement as well as administration and finance.  As the Program Manager for STARCAP, you’ll work closely with the Synergia Cooperative Institute and Athabasca University, as well as community partners across the country and MOOC registrants from around the world.  

CCEDNet staff team offices are located in Victoriaville (Québec), Winnipeg, Toronto and Ottawa, with staff currently working primarily remotely. Project partners are located across Canada.  We welcome applications from those legally eligible to work in Canada and able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of working across time zones. This role is primary office based during business hours with some evenings and overtime potential. Domestic travel may also be required.

ABOUT YOU

Motivated by the idea of convening cutting edge ideas that support social and economic change, you are a skilled project manager with exceptional coordination skills. You are comfortable establishing and building connections in the digital space. Your skills and experience in online learning and convening are matched by your desire to make social change. You have spent time in project management, partnership management, or program coordination positions and are comfortable with programs such as G-Suite (Google Apps), Wordpress, MailChimp, and social media platforms. You use your engaging interpersonal skills and superior oral and written capabilities to coordinate multiple stakeholders.  Bonus if you can do that in French.

You have knowledge of, and more importantly, a desire to keep learning about community economic development, social economy, community transition and climate resilience as well as an interest in current actors and organizations involved. You want to work for an organization that aligns with your personal values and commitment to gender equality, poverty reduction, reconciliation, anti-racism, anti-oppression, diversity, and inclusion.  You are aware of your own lived experience of systemic barriers or privilege, and how that shapes your unique contribution to strategic social change. 

You are a convenor, connector, and facilitator. The thought of being the lead for this cutting-edge project and connecting with community change leaders throughout the country is motivating, exciting, and exactly how you want to be spending your time.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

By the end of your first 2 months:

  • You will have familiarized yourself with CCEDNet, STARCAP, and the project scope.
  • You will have established strong working relationships with STARCAP partners
  • You will have completed a review of the MOOC content and the experience of the first delivery. 
  • You'll have begun recruitment for community partners in the next MOOC delivery. 

By March 31, 2023:

  • You will have deepened your understanding of social economy, just transition and community economic development, informed by core principles of diversity, inclusion, equity, and access.
  • You will have learned about effective design measures to enable individual and group learning, both online and in person, for community action advancing systems change and just transition.  
  • You'll have successfully managed a $1M federal grant agreement, including meeting all reporting requirements and
  • You'll have expanded your professional network with strong relationships in CCEDNet's team, with the STARCAP partners and with people active in local transition efforts throughout Canada and around the world.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a term position that works 28/hr per week and starts as soon as possible, ending  Sept 30, 2024. The starting rate is $25.88 - $29.69 and is adjusted for regional cost of living variances, plus extended benefits.
