The Conversions Conferences

This Conference will focus on the conversion of business enterprises into worker co-operatives.

North American Conference of Worker Co-operatives

At the second event, we expect to formally launch the North America sub-region of the International Organisation of Industrial, Artisanal and Service Producers’ Co-operatives.

These events are organized jointly by the Canadian Worker Co-op Federation and Le Réseau de la coopération du travail du Québec with the support of the United States Federation of Worker Co-ops, La Fédération québécoise des coopératives forestières and the North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO).\


 

Social Enterprise Boot Camp

Social Enterprise Boot Camp: Presented by the Social Enterprise Fund

 

Sharpen and strengthen your SE idea/plan in just one weekend. Working with the VentureAlberta team, you will work intensively for 3 days on your SE idea/plan.

On the last day, up to four participants will be selected to receive up to $10,000 each in support to advance their idea/plan. The criteria for selection are innovation, impact and sustainability.

The number of participants is limited to 25
Registrants will be notified by the SEF with 5 days of their selection


To be eligible, a registrant must be either:

  • A non-profit or charity, or
  • A social entrepreneur that agrees not to distribute any profits outside of the social enterprise. For practical purposes this means that the social enterprise must be formed as a Part 9 not – for – profit company.

The Boot Camp includes:

Comprehensive seminars on:

  • Identifying and understanding your target market
  • Defining and defeating your competition
  • The financials and understanding the deal
  • Marketing and business development
  • Developing the pitch – tell it and sell it
  • And much more!

Presentations by successful business owners and social enterprisers each day

Fully catered breakfasts and lunches


Boot Camp Logistics

  • Date: April 7, 8 and 9, 2011
  • Location: to be determined.
  • Cost: $250 + GST per participant, payable by cheque to the Social Enterprise Fund, within 10 working days from email confirmation of selection

Creating Rural Connections 2011 Conference

The Alberta Rural Development Network (ARDN) is hosting its second rural development conference at the Mayfield Inn & Suites, April 12 to April 14, 2010.

It will be three exciting days of presentations on rural projects, programs, research, and traiing/learning opportunities. It’s the perfect blend of rural community and post-secondary collaborations. Presentations can be about rural projects or programs underway or completed; rural research under development, in progress or completed; or about training/learning opportunities that are available throughout rural Alberta. Groups can showcase existing partnerships between researchers/post-secondary institution and communities.
