CommonBound: Moving Together Toward A New Economy

The New Economy Coalition is delighted to invite you to a convening at Northeastern University in Boston, MA from June 6-8, 2014

In the spirit of our ‘Strategies for a New Economy’ conference at Bard College in 2012, and our ‘ReRoute: Building Youth and Student Power for a New Economy” convergence at New York University in 2013, we will be bringing together a diverse group of the New Economy’s most energetic thinkers, practitioners, and newcomers. We intend to share practices, tools, and stories; highlight achievements; and create an environment that propels existing work and powerful innovations forward.

Everywhere we look, people are experimenting with new ways to create sustainable businesses, share knowledge and resources, and build resilient and democratic communities. From many people and places, a common vision for a New Economy is gaining the momentum and power to transform our broken system. A movement is emerging, and now is the time to move towards greater unity and deeper action.

Registration will open this winter and include meals, housing, and access to all conference events. Some scholarships will be provided in order to insure broad participation. The convening will be followed by the first full meeting of the organizational members of the New Economy Coalition, June 8th-9th.

We want you to be there. Please plan to join us in Boston as we take the next steps—together.

The Transformative Power of Community Narratives

11:55am - 1:00pm ET
January 16
via Conference Call

Featuring Dr. Chene Swart

As communities, we are surrounded by - and participate in - layers and layers of stories or narratives that inform what we know about one another; what we can see; how we relate; what we value; who we are; and, who we can become. Using narrative practices drawn from individual therapy, Dr. Swart's work explores the role of community narratives in social change and how, by re-composing and re-authoring the stories of our lives, together we can weave the fibres of hope, truth and possibility to create a shared sense of abundance and responsibility for one another.

Speaker
April Rinne of Collaborative Lab

Over the past several years, the growth of the collaborative economy (also called collaborative consumption or the sharing economy) has accelerated, reflecting people’s growing desire to find innovative solutions to economic pressures, environmental concerns, and a need for greater social connection. Thanks to new technologies, we are able to transact and exchange value with one another in new ways.

In this tele-learning, April Rinne, Chief Strategy Officer with Collaborative Lab and a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum, will introduce the fundamental principles of the collaborative economy and explain some of the opportunities and challenges that it presents to businesses and governments. April will share success stories about organizations that have harnessed collaborative economy solutions and provide insight into the cultural narrative that has allowed them to flourish.

In her role with Collaborative Lab, April regularly works with private and public sector clients to reimagine their work through a collaborative lens paired with technology. The firm is especially known for its cross-sector, global approach in three key areas: market understanding and awareness, shareable cities, and business innovation.
