The Volunteer’s Role

The volunteer will support the Centre for Health Works and Development (CHEDRES) to strengthen community structures in 18 rural communities. As a result, the community structures will be better able to engage with the health care system regarding their needs.

As a volunteer, you will:

- Provide technical support to develop advocacy strategies for beneficiaries and communities

- Identify gaps in the CHEDRES existing knowledge management and learning structures

- Develop comprehensive processes and systems to create, acquire, capture, share and use knowledge to support learning that is in line with the objectives, values, and policies of CHEDRES and the organization's partners

- Support CHEDRES in program development and fundraising strategies

- Coach and mentor CHEDRES staff on best practices for the implementation and delivery of Cuso International's Gender Equality and Social Inclusion initiatives

Essential Academic Qualifications:

University degree and/ or college diploma in gender studies, social sciences, public policy, communications, business administration, etc.

Essential Professional Background:

- Experience developing operational plans and strategies

- Experience in advocacy

- Experience in fundraising

- Experience in project / program coordination / management

- Demonstrated success engaging diverse stakeholders

- Strong research and analysis skills

- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

Support Package

- Modest monthly living allowance (varies depending country)

- Accommodation while in placement

- Return airfare and visa/work permit costs

- Cost of required vaccinations, antimalarial medication and health insurance

- Pre-departure training and in-country orientation

- Travel and accommodation for reintegration debriefing weekend

- Modest support for accompanying partners and dependents going on placement with you for 12 months or longer (Return flight, emergency medical insurance, vaccinations)

- Access to Employee Assistance Program while in placement and upon return

- Cuso International assessment day (Candidates must cover the first $200 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and all accommodation costs).

- Travel and accommodation for the five-day pre-departure training course and for in-country orientation

- Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months
