Return of the Ontario CED Event!

CCEDNet-Ontario, with the ongoing commitment and assistance of a steering committee representing broad interests across the province, is currently planning an Ontario CED Event that builds upon the success of last year’s Connections to Revitalize Communities. This will be a one-day event that will take place on June 7th at the Learning Enrichment Foundation in Toronto.

The event will seek to explore the systemic shift happening within Ontario's economy that is felt acutely by the communities we live in. More than ever we need an investment strategy that builds on local skills, assets and people to reduce inequality and strengthen communities. Connections 2012 will bring together community organizations, government representatives, researchers, students and social entrepreneurs to focus on innovative solutions for our communities.

>> Stay tuned for further details by visiting http://www.ccednet-rcdec.ca/en/OntarioCEDEvent2012.

The Metcalf Foundation is placing an open call for proposals for "Increasing the Viability of the Local Sustainable Food System"

Metcalf seeks to support concrete examples of practices and approaches that provide strong examples of “the how” of enabling long-term viability throughout the local sustainable food system. Proposals should focus on practical demonstrations of proof of concept or the positive results of taking action. Proposals should also include a brief communications plan for identifying and promoting the benefits of the work undertaken.

>> The request for proposals can be found on Metcalf's website.

High quality, safe and affordable child care matters to the future of Ontario.

The Ontario government's new Full-Day Learning program is a great first step but it only focuses on 4 and 5-year-olds. It doesn't address the early learning and care needs of younger children and their families.

Without an immediate funding fix, licensed child care centres in every community across Ontario will close, leaving fewer child care spaces for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers — and leaving families with no options. Fewer licensed child care and home care spaces means longer waiting lists, up to 30% increase in fees, parents forced to give up their jobs and a threat to the success of and investment in full-day learning.

Tell your MPP — before March 31st — to stand up for high quality, licensed child care in Ontario that gives our kids the best start in life. http://www.childcarematterstome.ca/

Co-ops and MPPs Together at Queen's Park

On Co-op hosts its annual Queen’s Park Co-op/MPP Reception on March 20. This date, earlier than usual, allows the Ontario co-op movement to introduce the International Year of Co-operatives. On Co-op, with the support of the co-ops in attendance, will also use this opportunity to present the sector’s key messaging --which can then be followed up by On Co-op and local co-op champions over the year.

Co-ops and credit unions: Make sure to register your board chair, CEO and/or key government relations people. Sending your key people to this informal networking event, ensures that your organization’s key GR messages get mentioned.

On Co-op presents a “Government Relations 101” workshop held at 4.30pm, immediately preceding the Reception - all guests are invited to take part in this extremely useful MPP/communications/advocacy session. Registration for the MPP Reception is here http://www.eventsbot.com/events/eb913547020.
