Making the Shift from a Traditional Non-Profit to an Enterprising Non Profit

This workshop focuses on the cultural, organizational, and governance changes that need to take place for a traditional non-profit to successfully move into the social enterprise arena. Through presentations, group exercises, and case studies participants will learn:

  • how to determine if social enterprise is right for their organization
  • how to assess their non-profit's readiness and capacity
  • how to assess the feasibility of their business ideas
  • the keys to launching a successful social enterprise
  • what resources are available to help develop a social enterprise in NB

Communities Connected: Celebrating our region and designing our future

You are invited to join your neighbours, far and wide, for a one day event that will celebrate the assets that we have in the Upper Petitcodiac River Valley (Elgin, Havelock, Salisbury, River Glade, Anagance, Portage Vale, and Petitcodiac).

The purpose of this event is to bring people together to identify all the great assets (physical, human, social resources) that we have in the Upper Petitcodiac Valley and discuss how we can use what we have to make the Valley an even better place to live!

Get to know each other as we share and recognize the assets of our communities. We will draw a visual map of all our resources so we can see the big picture!

Afternoon
– Exploration –

Using the information on our map we will highlight common visions for Upper Petitcodiac River Valley and talk about how we can get there together!

Partnerships Between Non-Profit & Business: Challenges & Opportunities

This webinar will present findings from a knowledge project submitted to ESDC. We will have an overview of the challenges and opportunities that not-for-profit (NFP) organizations experience when attempting to partner with the private business sector and identify resources/tools that NFPs could use for partnering with the private sector.

Format: 30-minute presentation followed by 30 minute Q & A session

About Dr. Tessa Hebb

Dr. Hebb is the Director of the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation, Carleton University, Canada. Her research - which focuses on Responsible Investment and Impact Investment - is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Government of Canada. She has published many books and articles on responsible investing and impact investing policies including the volumes Working Capital: the Power of Labor’s Pensions; No Small Change: Pension Fund Corporate Engagement; The Next Generation of Responsible Investing; and SRI in the 21st Century: Does it make a Difference to Society. In November, at the 2014 Social Finance Forum Dr. Hebb received an award from the Women In Leadership Foundation & the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing celebrating her career of groundbreaking work in impact investing.
