1. What is Deep Democracy all about?

In essence Deep Democracy is about fostering awareness within and of oneself and in groups. The training provides practical and pragmatic tools and techniques that are simple yet powerful. These teach you how to:

· enhance individual and team effectiveness,

· improve the quality and inclusiveness of decision-making

· get people to say what they need to say

· view challenges and conflict as vehicles for growth

2. What can it do for me and my organization?

Achieve breakthroughs in groups on impossible-to-solve issues and impasses
Ensure you and others are treated with respect and that your and their wisdom is facilitated and incorporated
Build a shared vision through ensuring that all views are genuinely included and that true support is obtained
Facilitate decisions needed to create innovation, transformation and change
Recognize the emotional dynamics within a meeting and equip you with the necessary tools to deal with these dynamics

3. How is this different from other professional development opportunities?

First and foremost, Deep Democracy is practical and easy to use. The idea is not to absorb a ton of information in two days and then go out and try to apply it in your organization.

Instead, you will begin practicing the principles of this collaborative decision-making process starting in the first 60 minutes of the training. Instead of the trainers presenting us with our curriculum, we use the process to collectively decide the agenda and learning for the two day course. As a group, participants decide what combination of theory and practicum will comprise the curriculum.

Second, it isn't often a facilitation tool delivers on its promise. The success of the Deep Democracy method has been proven in a variety of situations including conflicting teams or groups, racial tension, change management and restructuring, counselling and in education. It stands testament to the power of inclusion and diversity in REAL and SUSTAINED CHANGE.

4. How has it been used?

It has been used as a method for conflict resolution and mediation, organizational change and development, community development, leadership training and facilitation of group processes.

5. Why should I invest in this training?

We believe that everyone from community workers to human resource managers are beginning to recognize that band-aid solutions cannot address the struggles we are continuously encountering in our organizations and communities. We know we need to find common ground, put an end to negative cycles, work better together and move forward.

The question is how. Deep Democracy is how.

Please read. We fully recognize Deep Democracy is an investment. We have subsidized this training so that it could be offered to the Winnipeg community at a reasonable cost. Costs for the same training in Toronto, UK, US, South Africa, and other European locations run from $1,500 and up. We are committed to making this training as accessible as possible - this commitment is at the heart of our determined journey to bring Deep Democracy to Winnipeg. If you want to attend, please connect with us and we will do our best to make it happen.
