UNDRIP: A Webinar on the Canadian Context and Implications for Reconciliation and for Protecting Canada’s Environment

UNDRIP webinarAdopted by the General Assembly in 2007, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) is regarded as the most comprehensive international instrument on the rights of Indigenous peoples. In Canada, the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission speaks to UNDRIP as the framework for reconciliation and calls on the federal government of Canada to develop a national action plan and strategies to achieve UNDRIP.

Understanding CSR: When One Size Doesn't Fit All

One of the definitions of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is “a company's commitment to manage the social, environmental and economic effects of its operations responsibly and in line with public expectations.” 

Beyond charitable support and waste reduction programs, CSR at its best is embedded in the company through a number of elements: governance, measurement, transparency, employee experience, environmental stewardship, supply chain management, and strong community partnerships.

About the Presenter:

As Executive Director of Pillar Nonprofit Network, Michelle Baldwin is a strong community advocate with extensive experience in volunteer management, communications, training and fundraising. Michelle previously held positions with the Brain Tumour Foundation and Thames Valley Children’s Centre. She currently serves on the Boards of Huron University College and Emerging Leaders, and facilitates a variety of nonprofit related workshops.

Michelle holds a Masters degree in Educational Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, as well as a Communications & Public Relations Professional Certificate from Western and a Volunteer Management Certificate from Fanshawe College.

Parag Rajendra Khandhar, Asian American Solidarity Economies Project 
Parag is a founding principal of Gilmore Khandhar, LLC, a law firm focused on legal, policy, and advocacy tools to advance economic justice, racial equity, and social transformation. He teaches at George Washington University Law School. Parag co-founded Baltimore Activating Solidarity Economies (BASE) and the Asian American Solidarity Economies Network (AASE).

So, you want to initiate a social enterprise but need some help exploring your idea in more detail? Or, you have a problem and need some help in defining the right solution? Once your solution is identified, we will workshop your social enterprise idea(s) through a feasibility honesty loop where you will be challenged to assess the feasibility of your idea against core concepts found in the Flourishing social business model canvas.

  • Examine an organizational, community, or societal problem and define/frame the optimal solution
  • Tools to initiate a social enterprise
